Police allege that in the early hours of May 23, a Woodstock man was driving near Winston Churchill Blvd. and Argentia Rd., posting 102 km/h in a 60 km zone. He was stopped and arrested without incident.

Mitchel Hunter, 20, faces charges of stunt driving, speeding, failure to surrender driver’s licence and drive motor vehicle contrary to emissions regulations. His licence was suspended for 30 days and his vehicle has been impounded.

Previous deadly incident

Hunter is already awaiting trial in connection with a deadly crash in Brampton in November 2024 that killed a man and left two other people injured. Police say he was leaving a street racing event at the time. He was charged with dangerous operation causing death and two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm in that incident. None of the charges have been proven in court yet.

Report to police

Police say the public should contact them when they see instances of dangerous driving on the road by contacting Road Safety Services at 905-453-3311, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or by filing an online report via Road Watch. Photo and video evidence can be submitted with the evidence submission portal.

Dangerous driving

Ontario has some of the stiffest penalties for stunt driving and speeding in North America, including an immediate 30-day licence suspension and 14-day vehicle impoundment, whether it’s the driver’s vehicle or not, a minimum fine of $2,000 and a jail term of up to six months.
