Netflix just released its first Young Adult horror K-drama titled If Wishes Could Kill. Centered around a wish-granting application that causes ‘wishers’ to die brutal deaths once their wishes are granted, it mixes tech with supernatural elements in a horrific and intriguing narrative.
The eight-episode series debuted on Netflix on April 24, and already, fans want more of its strong premise and emotionally layered storytelling. This has sparked curiosity about whether the show will get another season or if it will end here. Here’s all we know about Season 2.
Has Netflix Greenlit If Wishes Could Kill Season 2?
If Wishes Could Kill | Credits: NetflixAs of late April 2026, Netflix has not officially greenlit If Wishes Could Kill for Season 2. This is standard for K-dramas, as Netflix typically monitors the completion rate and global Top 10 performance during the first 28 days before making an announcement.
The series is produced by CJ ENM Studios and directed by Kingdom Season 2-famed Park Youn-seo. During a screening and press conference for the show in South Korea, Park stated that he is considering expanding the show beyond its first season (via Maeil Business).
I am considering whether it should expand into a new story like Whispering Corridors or continue the current narrative.
Typically, the platform waits for several weeks before making a decision. Given the buzz and how the show fits into Netflix’s broader strategy of high-concept thrillers, there is a possibility If Wishes Could Kill could get a second season.
Since Park, too, is considering expanding the show, they might be in talks about how to expand the show before taking the right step. So while there is no official confirmation yet, the situation is far from a dead end.
There is a possibility that we might get a renewal announcement realistically by Summer 2026. Till then, keep your fingers crossed!
How If Wishes Could Kill Season 1 Sets Up Season 2
If Wishes Could Kill is set in Seorin High School, where a bunch of students discover the wish-granting app called Girigo. They are forced to investigate and figure out who is behind the app when a classmate dies.
A supernatural-tech mystery, the finale of Season 1 blew the door right off its hinges. While the main group managed to survive and discover the mystery, the finale ended with a middle-school student receiving a new notification: GIRIGO 2.0 Updated Wishes Available.
While the main group seemed to have moved on at the end of Episode 8, this teaser at the end suggests that the curse has evolved into a smarter and deadlier version of itself. This time, it has likely rebranded itself with different rules and a wider reach.
Moreover, Season 1 left several questions unanswered, including plot points like Se Ah and Geon U’s romance. A second season could possibly explore more in this direction while the new version of the app wreaks havoc. It can also go deeper into the ritual lore behind the app, as well as into the adults who initially suppressed these incidents at the school.
If Netflix grants a renewal by June 2026, the production timeline for a high-budget K-drama usually spans 12–18 months. In such a case, a second season could potentially arrive by late 2027 or early 2028.
