Stanley Tucci recently got his Hollywood Walk of Fame honor alongside his co-star from the Prada universe, Emily Blunt. The actor’s career spans 40+ years in the industry with many notable roles. However, the one role that fans love him for the most is Nigel Kipling in The Devil Wears Prada.
The actor himself revealed that the character he relates to the most is Kipling (via The Kelly Clarkson Show). For a character that’s like a mentor, fashionable, a bit sarcastic, but with a good heart, it’s hard not to love him. However, if fans liked Tucci’s role as Nigel in the original movie and the sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2, they are sure to love these other roles that have at least two of these qualities:

1 Julie & Julia (2009) – Paul Child
The characters of Paul Child and Nigel have more than one thing in common: Meryl Streep. In the critically acclaimed movie, Julie & Julia, Tucci plays the role of Streep’s husband, while in the Prada universe, he plays Streep’s colleague and art director of her magazine.

As Paul Child, he plays a devoted husband who supports his wife, Julia, no matter what. Nigel, the character, tries to be the anchor for Miranda Priestly, only to be ignored. Tucci’s role in Prada showcases that he wanted to be like Paul, everything that Streep’s character needed but could not be professionally.
2 Easy A (2010) – Dill Penderghast
A still from Easy A | Credits: Screen GemsTucci plays the role of a devoted father to Emma Stone‘s character in Easy A. Dill Penderghat is underrated and is more like Nigel than fans realize. While Nigel uses humour to get through his work, Dill plays a loving and warm father, who Stone’s character needs and deserves.

Both act as mentors, one to Anne Hathaway‘s Andrea Sachs and another to Stone’s Olive, and both use humor as their dominant language. The character is similar to Nigel – the only difference – he is a father, unlike the mentor Andrea gets. Both Dill and Nigel are kind and warm, using humor to navigate through life.
3 Spotlight (2015) – Mitchell Garabedian
A still from Spotlight | Credits: ParticipantThis role might seem way off to fans of Tucci’s work, as Mitchell Garabedian is a serious character compared to the fashion icon. However, one thing that connects these characters is their resolve towards the things they put their hearts into.

Mitchell fights against the Boston Catholic Church in Spotlight, representing abuse victims with the same resolve that Nigel uses to make Miranda’s life at the magazine easy. They are both from opposite ends of the world but share the same morale, making Mitchell have similar qualities to Kipling.
4 Conclave (2024) – Cardinal Bellini
A still from Conclave | Credits: Indian PaintbrushOne of Tucci’s most celebrated characters is Cardinal Bellini in the Oscar-winning movie, Conclave. The character is a cardinal navigating through the Vatican life and might seem completely different compared to Kipling. However, the cardinal has to survive the politics of the Vatican and deal with a superior figure.

Similarly, Nigel has to navigate through the fashion world and operate in a restrictive environment under Miranda Priestly. Both characters use their intelligence rather than overpowering the authority they have to deal with. Their way of approaching complications is quite similar.
5 The Hunger Games (2012-2015) – Caesar Flickerman
Other than Kipling, one other role fans absolutely love Tucci in and as is Caesar Flickerman in The Hunger Games. The character is beloved as he supports the tributes when they are thrown in front of the Capitol to present themselves. He acts as a mentor to them while making them feel at ease, similar to Nigel.

However, both characters are fashion-forward, and they love a good sense of humor. These characters are both performers in a corrupt system. While one enables it, the other secretly resents being a part of it. But, well, the characters are more alike than apart.
Tucci had admitted in an interview that he had difficulty finding roles after 2006’s The Devil Wears Prada (via Vanity Fair). It’s interesting to see that a character he vehemently loves and relates to also became the one who made his career a bit rough for that period.
These iconic roles played by the actor do share Nigel’s core qualities, where they choose dignity for institutions that do not necessarily deserve it. Here are all the roles combined that you should watch if you loved the Prada sequel:
