Vaughan man charged in fatal North York stabbing; Worker dies at Flamboro Speedway

A 28-year-old Vaughan man has been charged with first-degree murder after a 29-year-old Toronto woman was fatally stabbed in a North York high-rise on Saturday afternoon.

Toronto Police said officers responded to “a person with a knife” call at the residential building near Don Mills Rd. And Fairview Mall Dr., just north of Sheppard Ave. E., around 2:30 p.m.

Officers found a female victim, later identified as Thi Nguyen, with stab wounds in a hallway inside the building.

Life-saving measures commenced, but the victim was pronounced dead on scene.

The suspect fled the scene before police arrived.

On Sunday, police said Martin Ly was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and failure to comply with an undertaking.

This is Toronto’s 21st homicide of 2026.

Fatal workplace incident at Flamboro Speedway

Hamilton Police said a Flamboro Speedway employee is dead following a crash at the track on Saturday night.

Cops were called to the speedway at 9:15 p.m. and said an employee was injured as a result of an “accident on the track.”

The employee was transported to Hamilton General Hospital where they later succumbed to their injuries.

News outlet Flamborough Today reported that the unidentified employee was a man in his late 60s.

The outlet reported that the speedway was hosting a Christmas in July event when the accident occurred. John Casale, co-owner of the speedway, told the outlet that two cars were racing and one went airborne. The long-time staff member was in the speedway’s starter stand at the time, Casale said, adding that this is the first fatal accident in 54 years he has been at the speedway.

The Ministry of Labour has taken carriage of the investigation.

Two suspects sought in Niagara Falls homicide

Niagara Regional Police said they have identified two suspects following a fatal shooting in Niagara Falls last Thursday.

Niagara cops said officers responded at about 8:50 p.m. to a residence on Thorold Stone Rd. near Dorchester Rd. for a male who had been shot.

Officers determined that two suspects arrived the home and shot the victim with a handgun. The victim, later identified as 35-year-old Mitchell Snoddon, of Niagara Falls, was transported to hospital and died of his injuries shortly after.

Police said detectives have obtained images of the suspects and the suspect vehicle, which was determined to be a white 2022-2026 Nissan Rogue SUV.

On Sunday, police identified the suspects as Maaroof Bangi, 23, and Josta Grace MacNeal, 30. They are both sought for second-degree murder.

Police later said that the suspects are likely operating a black 2021 Mazda CX5 with Ontario licence plate DDEC744.

Cops probe downtown explosion call

Toronto Police said there were minor injuries following an incident involving gunfire downtown overnight Saturday.

Cops were called to the Adelaide St. W. and John St. area for a firearm discharge at 3:43 a.m. Police initially said they were called for an “explosion in the area.”

Police found evidence of gunfire on scene and damage to a window of a residential unit.

Cops confirmed a firearm had been discharged and said there were minor injuries, though police didn’t say how many people were injured.

There was no immediate suspect information.
