Ottawa police are maintaining a “large presence in and around Mooney’s Bay Park” Sunday following violent confrontations Saturday night that included two stabbings, one of which left a man in critical condition.

The Ottawa Paramedics Service said Sunday they received several calls minutes before 9 p.m. reporting “multiple patients” at the scene. The unconfirmed reports stated there were “hundreds” of people present, said paramedic spokesperson Neil Martin.

The service dispatched several units to the scene, where paramedics found a “young adult” man with stab wounds.

The victim was transported to a trauma centre in critical condition, and Martin noted paramedics were “heavily involved” in treatment during the transport.

A teenage female was also treated at the scene and transported to hospital in stable condition.

Ottawa police Insp. Jamie Harper said at the scene that officers were engaged in a large-scale search for evidence at the huge open area and the public should expect the area to be closed off for some time.

The investigation remains in its infancy, Harper said.

“Our investigators are pulling out all the stops,” he said.

“We do have some (CCTV evidence) of the altercation and potential suspects.”

The senior officer said there had been an “unfortunate … miscommunication” with organizers of the 2026 Ottawa MS Walk, which had been scheduled for Sunday at the Terry Fox Athletic Facility.

It’s not clear whether the walk will be rescheduled.

“There is zero public safety issue,” the inspector said, but police need to be able to search the grounds.

“I was hoping to (meet with walk organizers) to discuss any concerns that they had but a decision had been made.

“We would have done everything possible” to ensure the walk could have proceeded, Harper said.
