This One Piece Character Beats Nami to Win Hottest Anime Woman Poll in Japan

A Japanese community poll on Minna no Ranking was conducted to determine which female anime character Japan considers the hottest of all time (via ranking.net). That said, it was almost certain that One Piece characters would take a few spots on the list, and many might have assumed Nami would claim the #1 position.

However, Japan seems to prefer Boa Hancock over Nami. While Nami does take second place, Boa’s victory could also have been anticipated, as she is widely popular for her looks even in the West. The poll was conducted among 251 female characters, and Boa still took the top spot.

Other Female One Piece Characters Who Made the List

Interested participants could vote a score between 1 and 100 for any of the 251 female anime characters. By doing so, each character was assigned an overall score based solely on fans’ votes. In that process, Boa received a staggering score of 93.8 points, followed by Nami with 81.1 points.

The gap between their scores is huge, which says a lot about how Japanese fans prefer Boa. Apart from these two, Nico Robin secured a spot in the top 10 as well. With a score of 76.1 points, she ranks 5th on the list.

Why Boa Topping Japan’s Popularity Poll Makes Sense

Boa’s popularity is not limited only to Japan; her looks and attitude are highly regarded throughout the community. In a sense, Boa is the perfect woman the series wanted to portray in a storyline filled with pirates, war, and conflict. She is strong and cool, and is regarded as the most beautiful lady in the One Piece world.

While Nami is equally beautiful, her personality is often goofy, and many have claimed that she doesn’t make much of a contribution during fights, which may not have appealed to Japanese fans.

For Boa, even her position in the storyline has helped her gain much praise. As the former member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea and the current captain of the Kuja Pirates, Boa has big roles to fulfill. She is also the current empress of Amazon Lily and the eldest of the Gorgon sisters. Now that’s a lot!
