One of the leading groups to come out of the Chicago alt-rock scene of the 1990s, The Smashing Pumpkins hit its creative and commercial peak with the sprawling double album titled Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness. With the hit single Bullet With Butterfly Wings, lead singer Billy Corgan brought the turn of phrase “despite all my rage, I am still just a rat in a cage” into the public mind and captured the mood of a generation.

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness, Corgan, guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin are joined by bassist Jack Bates and second guitarist Kiki Wong to perform two sets per show. The first is composed of songs from the anniversary album. The second set draws from across the band’s other releases.

Whether Corgan will also be reciting his poetry or not is yet to be determined. Fans who experienced his literary period when he read at the old Arts Club Theatre Backstage Lounge have probably never forgotten the reading. Others will be quite happy to hear the band play Disarm and other hits.
