HBO Max‘s The Pitt season 2, episode 14, “8:00 P.M.,” finds us neck-deep in new characters taking over the shift, yet Robby still hasn’t been able to leave, his Easy Rider escape across the country remaining just out of reach. It raises the question: if everyone else is clocking out, why hasn’t he? Meanwhile, the friction between Dana and Robby continues to simmer.

The Pitt Season 2, Episode 14, “8:00 P.M.” opens with several of our favorite supporting characters heading out for the night, and, perhaps, the season. Front desk medical support assistant Lupe (Tracy Vilar) clocks out, while Nurse Donahue (Brandon Mendez Homer) can’t stay to finish digitizing charts, needing to get home to his child. Even emergency fill-in Nurse Peters makes her exit.

HBO Max’s The Pitt Season 2 Episode 14: What Does Robbie Say About Orlando?

In a shocking moment of sobering cynicism, Robbie tells Dr. Mohan (Supriya Ganesh) that Orlando’s only mistake was not finding a higher place to jump from. This is the same attending physician who constantly reprimands his team for a lack of empathy. Mohan, already struggling after Orlando checked himself out following his DKA, runs off upset.

The psychiatric attending, Dr. Caleb Jefferson (The Lincoln Lawyer’s Christopher Thornton), overhears this and later approaches Robby. Robby tries to brush him off, but Jefferson calls him out for his lack of respect. He points out that Robby still hasn’t come to see him and urges him to call from the road if he needs to, concerned about his mental state.

Robby also lays into the medical student and social media influencer Victoria Javadi (Shabana Azeez) for filming TikToks during her shift. Javadi stands up to him, and Dr. McKay (Fiona Dourif) steps in, pointing out that Victoria was actually trying to arrange services for a patient. Everyone is choosing their own mental health over the hospital, something Robby struggles with.

It was a bad day for paramedics, as one pair knocked over Robby’s beloved motorcycle with their ambulance. His friend Duke (Sons of Anarchy’s Jeff Kober) grabs tools from his truck to handle the minor repairs so Robby can still leave when his shift ends. Earlier, Robby tells Duke his prognosis isn’t good; either he has the surgery or faces a 50% chance of dropping dead within a year.

In one of the best scenes in the show’s short history, Duke repairs Robby’s bike while the two share a quiet heart-to-heart. Duke realizes that handling the emergency room for even a few minutes, let alone twelve hours, is too much for anyone. Robby breaks down, telling his friend he doesn’t know if he wants to be here anymore. And by “here,” he doesn’t mean the hospital.

This is a shocking admission that hints at suicidal ideation. Robby says the hospital is the only thing that gives him purpose and keeps him distracted. When he tells Duke he’s just going to drive, it feels like a final goodbye. Duke pushes back, telling him he’s running from his problems, “Is that what you want to teach your students?” he asks.

HBO Max’s The Pitt Season 2 Episode 14 Ending Explained: What Is Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi’s Diagnosis?

After Robby lays into two paramedics over an ECG placement that led to a missed STEMI and heart attack, Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi (Sepideh Moafi) pulls him aside and asks him to review a patient’s history. Meanwhile, Dana asks Dr. Jack Abbott (Shawn Hatosy) to check on Robby before he leaves. Jack insists he’s an adult and fine, but Dana remains concerned—as we all should be.

The Pitt Season 2, Episode 14 ends with Dr. Baran reviewing the chart with Robby. However, after spending the day questioning her unexplained absences, it finally dawns on him what he’s reading. A forty-year-old female with a history of seizure disorder and viral meningitis. He pauses, turns to Baran, and asks if this is her diagnosis.

On a side note, I wonder if Robby’s suicidal ideation may be a cover for something else affecting the physicians at the hospital. I’m also worried about Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball), who keeps working nonstop instead of going home, despite the near-miracle he pulled off in the ER. Also, Dr. Mohan is under both personal and professional strain, and Robby’s comments to her haven’t helped matters.
