The Kane Chronicles: 7 Strongest Egyptian Gods in Rick Riordan’s Next TV Universe, Ranked

With Disney+ reportedly developing a Kane Chronicles series, Rick Riordan’s Egyptian-mythology universe could be the next big fantasy world to hit the screen.

The original trilogy, which kicked off with The Red Pyramid in 2010, follows siblings Carter and Sadie Kane as they discover that the ancient Egyptian gods are very much alive and causing problems in the modern world. The story continued with The Throne of Fire in 2011 and The Serpent’s Shadow in 2012, bringing the trilogy to an epic conclusion.

And with that adaptation potentially introducing all these gods to a whole new audience, it’s a good time to look back at the most powerful Egyptian deities in the books.

7 Thoth’s Greatest Weapon Is His Vast Magical Wisdom

Thoth may not be the first god you’d pick for a fight, but he’s still seriously powerful thanks to his ridiculous knowledge of magic and the Duat.

In The Kane Chronicles, he’s basically the pantheon’s walking encyclopedia, with an understanding of spells, gods, and ancient secrets that even the Kanes can’t match. That knowledge makes him incredibly useful and potentially dangerous because knowing how magic works can be just as important as raw strength.

Still, Thoth lands at the bottom of this ranking because the books don’t give him many major combat feats. He’s powerful, just not particularly flashy.

6 Anubis Can Cross the Boundary Between Gods and Mortals

Anubis gets a unique advantage in The Kane Chronicles because he can operate in both the Duat and the mortal world. As the god who guides the dead, he can navigate the afterlife and interact with spirits and souls in ways the Kanes can’t.

His connection with Walt Stone is also important, allowing Anubis to stay in the mortal world through Walt’s body. That’s a pretty impressive trick, but Anubis ranks low because the trilogy never puts him at the center of its biggest divine conflicts, so his actual feats simply don’t stack up against the gods above him.

Isis earns a spot in the middle of this ranking because her greatest strength is her mastery of magic. She’s clever, powerful, and incredibly skilled at using spells and divine knowledge to get what she wants.

One of her biggest feats is tricking Ra into revealing his secret name, which gives her tremendous power over him. This is seriously impressive, especially considering Ra is the most powerful god.

Still, Isis ranks below the top gods because the trilogy doesn’t show her matching their raw combat power or taking on major battles herself.

3 Horus is The Divine Warrior Powerful Enough to Challenge Set

Horus easily earns the third spot because he’s one of the pantheon’s strongest fighters. As the god of war and kingship, he gives Carter access to serious combat power, including weapons, battle magic, and the ability to take on Set directly.

Their rivalry is one of the trilogy’s biggest divine conflicts, and Horus is powerful enough to challenge Set for control of the throne. He also plays a major role in the fight against Chaos.

2 Set Nearly Destroyed the World by Unleashing Chaos

The Red Pyramid gives us one of the clearest displays of Set’s raw power. After escaping his imprisonment, he gathers an army of monsters and commands them to construct a pyramid in Phoenix, while using his control over the desert and storms to spread destruction. He even manages to overwhelm Carter and Sadie’s allies and nearly completes his plan to unleash chaos across the world.

What makes Set especially dangerous is that he isn’t just powerful. He’s also strategic and relentless. His ability to wreak that much havoc puts him firmly in the upper tier of the Egyptian pantheon.

1 Ra is The Supreme God Whose Power Surpasses All Others

Ra takes the top spot because the trilogy repeatedly makes it clear just how important and powerful he is. Even though he has grown old and senile after carrying the sun across the sky for centuries, his return is crucial to the fight against Apophis.

This is why Carter and Sadie spent time searching for Ra and trying to restore him before Chaos takes over. Once Ra returns to his full strength, his power becomes even more obvious. He ranks at the top because no other Egyptian god is treated as quite so essential to defeating the serpent of chaos.
