Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity Episode 7 Review: Uryu’s Plan to Defeat Yhwach

While the previous episode ended as a complete pushover, with Ichigo and the others falling into despair after Yhwach awakened The Almighty to its full potential, Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity Episode 7 took a completely different route in the narrative. This episode was more focused on Uryu’s plan against Yhwach.

After his massive battle with Jugram, Uryu finally reaches the source of the distortion and is greeted by allies and enemies from his past. As they all join forces to defeat Yhwach, Uryu’s extremely risky plan to defeat the Quincy King and save the world begins.

Episode 7, titled “The End 2“, begins with Uryu heading straight for the Wahrwelt and stops cold when he spots the distortion sitting beneath the Seireitei. He tries attacking the massive orb of energy powering it, and it just eats his arrows whole. That’s when things get unexpectedly reunion-heavy – Dondochakka and Pesche show up, explaining they got pulled in by Yhwach’s black Almighty eyes, and they’ve already crossed paths with Nel and Harribel while wandering the place. Harribel, ever the professional, immediately points her sword at Uryu for the crime of being a Quincy, right before Shunsui and Nanao walk in and everyone has to pause the tension for a second.

Meanwhile, the show quietly drops one of its more unsettling reveals: the Hollow invasion was rerouted straight into the Rukon District, which was apparently always meant to be the fail-safe. A sacrifice zone dressed up as a neighborhood. It’s the kind of detail Bleach loves to slip in without dwelling on it, and it lands harder because of that.

Back at the orb, Harribel confirms the obvious horror – this thing is a vortex built to consume the entire world. Once Shunsui puts it together as the true source of the distortion, Uryu doesn’t dodge the question. He admits it flat out: this was Yhwach’s plan from before the war even started, and destroying it is his job now, as the last Quincy standing between the world and its own erasure. Shunsui’s the one who floats the actual solution – ram the orb straight into the distortion – and Uryu and Nel are on board instantly. So Uryu lays it out: drop the entire castle, orb included, into the rift, and hands everyone Reishi bombs to help make it happen.

The Almighty Seemed as Broken as Always Despite the Massive Attack

Cut to Yhwach, who’s been lazily toying with an exhausted Ichigo this whole time, right up until he decides to start pulling the Quincy power he “gave” Ichigo back out of him. He triggers Auswählen, and it’s brutal enough that Gerard is reduced to a skeleton on the spot. Ichigo can actually feel it happening: the Quincy power and the Hollow power tangled inside him slowly draining away, and there’s nothing he can do about it.

However, Yhwach barely gets to enjoy the moment. Uryu’s group has already detonated the bridges connecting the Wahrwelt, and as everyone piles onto Yhwach at once, the whole structure starts collapsing. Uryu fires an arrow that Yhwach swears he shattered with the Almighty, only for Uryu to calmly point out he’d already swapped in a version of events where it never broke at all. The arrow connects. For a moment, as the castle smashes into the distortion below, it genuinely looks like it’s over.

It isn’t. Yhwach reappears grinning and reveals he’s absorbed every Schrift into the Almighty itself. Despite the fall, despite the arrow, despite everything Uryu just threw at him, he’s standing there looking exactly as unbeatable as before.

This episode does something a lot of Bleach‘s finale stretch has struggled with – it makes Uryu’s intelligence feel like an actual weapon instead of just a talking point. His plan is clever without being convoluted, and pairing him back up with faces like Nel, Harribel, Dondochakka, and Pesche gives the episode warmth right before it turns devastating. The Auswählen sequence is genuinely horrifying, and the final gut-punch reveal lands exactly as hard as it should. “THE END 2” earns its title twice over.
