The Incredibles: Brad Bird Officially Reveals 4 Inspirations for Parr Family Powers

9 hours ago 8

It has been more than two decades since the world was introduced to the Parr family in the animated film The Incredibles. Being a family of superheroes, it was never revealed how creator Brad Bird came up with the idea of these iconic superpowers for the Parr family.

However, Brad Bird had a chat with CinemaBlend back in 2018 (during the promotion of The Incredibles 2) wherein he revealed the iconic way he came up with the powers for the Parr family.

I picked the powers based on who they were in the family. And so, men are always expected to be strong, so I had Bob have super strength. Women or mothers are always pulled in a million different directions, so I had [Helen] be elastic.

He continued,

Teenagers are insecure and defensive, so I had Violet have force fields and invisibility. 10-year-olds are energy balls that can’t be stopped. And babies are unknown. Maybe they have no powers, maybe they have all powers, we don’t know.

Well, that makes perfect sense considering the age dynamics as well as societal roles. With two movies in the franchise, The Incredibles 3 is well underway in development, and Pixar even showcased concept art of the upcoming film ahead of its 2028 release.

With the first film being released in 2004 and the sequel in 2018, The Incredibles 3 was announced and has been in production since then. However, Pixar recently gave out a sneak peek into the threequel with concept art that they featured at the D23 Expo that took place from August 14 to August 16, 2026.

The concept art was also shared on X, which showed Mr. Incredible holding off a giant sphere. Check out the concept art for The Incredibles 3 below:

Alongside the concept art, the story of The Incredibles 3 is as intriguing as the previous two parts. With the superheroes now decriminalized, it seems that the Parr family might be entering into modern superhero territory with The Incredibles 3.

Writer and creator Brad Bird confirmed (via Variety) that there will be no time jump in the third movie. This means that the Parr kids Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack will be at their original ages.

Further plot details state that the third movie will see Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack taking on the leading roles and will be sneaking out of the house at night to protect the city and hiding it from their parents.

Of course, this will be in similar veins to superheroes like Spider-Man and Batman. The third part will also see Samuel L. Jackson reprising his role as Frozone and will see the aftermath of the superheroes regaining legal status, which happened at the end of the second movie.

Naturally, the premise is quite intriguing, and nostalgic adults and fans are quite excited for its release. However, they would have to wait until 2028 to see it.
