Saito explained that when she received the full script, she was genuinely surprised by how much she didn’t understand at first. Rather than seeing that as a problem, she felt it was part of what makes Madoka Magica special: the story does not necessarily provide one definitive interpretation, leaving room for viewers to form their own answers.

Saito also revealed that she deliberately tried to put aside the many different versions of Homura that appeared across games, spin-offs, and collaborations over the past 13 years. Even though this version is a demon, Saito felt she was still closer to an ordinary girl than a traditional demon, and approached the performance from that perspective.
