When it comes to the most destructive Zanpakuto in Bleach, few can be compared to the sheer scale of powers wielded by its strongest Soul Reapers. However, destroying a planet is a different matter altogether. That said, few Zanpakuto in the series are capable of causing planetary-level destruction.

From Yamamoto’s world-scorching flames to Toshiro’s still-growing mastery of Hyorinmaru, these Zanpakuto showcase just how ridiculous the ceiling of power can become. Here are the five with the strongest cases for planetary devastation.

5 Zangetsu Can Unleash a Getsuga Tensho With Planetary Potential

Zangetsu, Ichigo Kurosaki’s Zanpakuto, is wielded by a Substitute Soul Reaper whose unique hybrid physiology combines Soul Reaper, Hollow, Quincy, and Fullbring powers. Its signature technique, Getsuga Tensho, reaches an extraordinary level at Ichigo’s peak.

In the manga, his final attack was capable of severing and killing Yhwach after he had absorbed the Soul King’s power, making him a transcendental being whose existence threatened the balance of the Three Worlds. If Zangetsu’s Getsuga Tensho can fatally damage an entity wielding that level of power, its destructive ceiling can reasonably be considered planetary. That makes Zangetsu a strong fifth-place contender.

4 Hyorinmaru Could Turn Vast Regions Into a Frozen Graveyard

Hyorinmaru’s greatest strength may actually be what Toshiro Hitsugaya has yet to unlock. It is regarded as the most powerful Ice-type Zanpakuto, while Ryujin Jakka stands above it among elemental Zanpakuto. Toshiro has also admitted that he still has room to master his abilities, and his matured version of Daiguren Hyorinmaru Bankai already shows how dramatically his power can grow.

With enough experience and complete mastery, his control over ice and the surrounding environment could theoretically reach an extraordinary scale, potentially encompassing an entire planet. Its enormous untapped ceiling makes Hyorinmaru fourth.

3 Nozarashi Has the Raw Cutting Power to Obliterate Anything

Nozarashi is the most straightforward destructive weapon among these contenders. Kenpachi Zaraki’s Shikai gave him enough cutting power to slice Gremmy’s enormous meteor in half, an attack created with the intention of destroying the Seireitei. His Bankai pushes that monstrous physical power even further, allowing him to tear through Gerard Valkyrie with terrifying ease.

Of course, cutting through a meteor is not the same as destroying a planet. However, if Zaraki manages to master his Bankai, his Zanpakuto has the potential to even slice a planet. Therefore, its demonstrated destructive output is difficult to overlook. That overwhelming raw power secures Nozarashi third place.

2 Ichimonji Could Reshape and Rewrite Planets on a Conceptual Level

Ichimonji’s terrifying potential comes from its ability to manipulate the very concepts behind its targets. Its ink erases the name of whatever it covers, stripping away the power associated with that name. Shirafude Ichimonji can then give the target a completely new name, effectively changing its nature.

Ichibe Hyosube demonstrated this against Yhwach by renaming him “Black Ant,” drastically reducing his power. A planet would obviously be an unprecedented target, but the ability’s conceptual nature leaves room for that interpretation. That reality-altering potential makes Ichimonji the second most dangerous Zanpakuto here.

1 Ryujin Jakka Could Turn an Entire World Into a Burning Wasteland

Ryujin Jakka has the clearest path toward catastrophic destruction. Genryusai Yamamoto’s Bankai, Zanka no Tachi, concentrates his flames into the blade, while its heat reaches an astonishing 15 million degrees Celsius. Simply maintaining the Bankai causes the surrounding moisture to disappear, and Yamamoto warns that prolonged use would eventually destroy Soul Society.

Zanka no Tachi also gives him techniques that incinerate whatever they strike. Its overwhelming heat and environmental effects are easily the closest thing here to world-ending destruction. That unmatched destructive scale puts Ryujin Jakka first.
