Steel Ball Run Episode 5 Recap: Gyro Faces an Enemy From His Past

Steel Ball Run aired Episode 5 on October 16, 2026, on Netflix, picking up directly from where Episode 4 left off. Gyro Zeppeli may have entered the Steel Ball Run to save a condemned boy, but the road to redemption is turning into a battlefield. With his history as a royal executioner finally out in the open, the Neapolitan racer discovers that his past has followed him all the way to America. And this time, his enemy does not need a gun to turn the world around him into a death trap.

Episode 5, titled The Terrorist from a Faraway Country, brings Gyro face-to-face with Oyecomova, a dangerous terrorist whose grudge against the Kingdom of Naples makes the second stage considerably more explosive.

Picking up the threads of Gyro’s backstory, the latest episode of the new Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure anime makes it clear that the Steel Ball Run is no longer simply a race for its protagonists. Gyro’s decision to represent Naples has attracted the attention of people who want him dead, and the latest threat comes from a familiar corner of his homeland.

Oyecomova is a Neapolitan terrorist with a history of deadly attacks. His earlier attempt to assassinate the king ended in the deaths of innocent people, but he escaped imprisonment and eventually made his way to America. Now, with Gyro competing in the race, Oyecomova has another target in his sights. His grudge is tied to the Zeppeli family, particularly Gyro’s father, Gregorio. Oyecomova’s escape from captivity left resentment simmering around the family, and Gyro has inherited the consequences of a history he did not entirely create.

The danger becomes apparent when Oyecomova’s Stand, “Listen to My Rhythm” (Boku no Rhythm wo Kiitekure), enters the picture. Its ability is as bizarre as it is lethal: it can attach timed explosive devices to objects and even substances such as water and smoke. In other words, almost anything around Oyecomova can become a bomb.

Oyecomova’s attack also puts Mountain Tim in danger. The cowboy’s attempt to confront the terrorist goes disastrously wrong, demonstrating just how difficult it is to deal with an opponent who can weaponize seemingly harmless surroundings. For Gyro, he entered the race hoping to change a young boy’s fate, only to find himself hunted because of the country he represents and the family he belongs to.

Once Oyecomova’s intentions become clear, Gyro and Johnny have little choice but to respond. Their immediate problem is survival, but the fight soon becomes a race of its own, with the two riders pursuing Oyecomova and trying to reach the Zombie Horse. The Zombie Horse is important because of its restorative properties. Reaching it could help Gyro recover from the injuries sustained during the confrontation. Unfortunately, Oyecomova’s explosive tricks make getting there a dangerous proposition.

Johnny, meanwhile, is becoming more than a passenger in Gyro’s increasingly bizarre world. His developing Stand, “Tusk,” allows him to spin his fingernails and launch them as projectiles. Oyecomova’s fight forces the pair to think beyond brute force. During their pursuit, they must contend with bombs hidden in their surroundings, including explosive threats involving water and a swarm of bees. Gyro’s ingenuity and Johnny’s emerging abilities become essential to finding a way around the terrorist’s defenses.

Gyro uses his Steel Balls to manipulate the battlefield, while Johnny’s projectiles help extend the reach of their combined attack. Rather than simply charging their opponent, the two coordinate their abilities to catch Oyecomova off guard. Gyro remains the more experienced fighter, but Johnny’s growing confidence and willingness to experiment make him an increasingly valuable ally.

Oyecomova’s defeat brings the immediate threat to an end, allowing the pair to continue their journey. But the victory does not erase the larger problem: Gyro’s past has made him a target, and other forces may have reasons to prevent him from reaching the finish line.
