Black Clover: Asta’s Version of Baryon Mode and Black Flash Officially Confirmed

Asta’s journey in Black Clover has always been about turning his biggest weakness into his greatest strength. While other characters rely on powerful magic, he fights with his Anti-Magic abilities. But his bond with Liebe and his training in Hino Country have given him two abilities that make him stand out even more.

True Devil Union gives Asta the kind of massive power boost that fans associate with Naruto’s Baryon Mode, while Zetten delivers the focused, explosive strikes that make Jujutsu Kaisen‘s Black Flash so terrifying. The similarities become clear when these powers are compared side by side.

True Devil Union Gives Asta His Own Baryon Mode in Black Clover

Asta’s True Devil Union is one of the closest things Black Clover has to Naruto’s Baryon Mode. Both transformations allow a hero to draw on a powerful bond and reach a level of strength that would be difficult to achieve alone.

Asta uses Devil Union in Chapter 282, when he joins forces with Liebe to defeat the giant demon attacking the Clover Kingdom. But his greatest breakthrough comes later, during his battle against Lucifero.

In Chapter 327, Asta and Liebe take their partnership to another level. After Lucifero nearly overwhelms them, the two realize their feelings have merged into one shared desire: to defeat the devil and live up to Licita’s final wish. Their new form allows them to cancel the magic of anything they touch. Asta and Liebe even withstand Lucifero’s punches and cut through his attacks, despite the supreme devil’s overwhelming strength.

That’s where the comparison with Naruto’s Baryon Mode becomes strong. Naruto and Kurama combine their chakra to create a new level of power, allowing Naruto to fight Isshiki Otsutsuki on more equal terms. Asta and Liebe also turn their partnership into a weapon that lets them challenge an enemy who once seemed untouchable.

Both forms come with serious limits, too. Baryon Mode consumes Naruto and Kurama’s chakra and ultimately costs Kurama his life. True Devil Union has a much shorter time limit in its first appearance, forcing Asta and Liebe to make the most of their five seconds.

The emotional connection makes Asta’s transformation even more memorable. Just as Naruto’s bond with Kurama defines Baryon Mode, Asta and Liebe’s shared history with Licita helps make True Devil Union feel like the natural peak of their partnership.

Zetten Is Asta’s Answer to Black Flash

If True Devil Union gives Asta his own version of Baryon Mode, Zetten is the ability that brings Black Flash to mind. Both techniques turn a single attack into something far more destructive through precise control and timing.

Asta learns Zetten after arriving in Hino Country by learning how to use Ki more effectively. The technique involves gathering power within the body and releasing it in one sudden burst. Asta takes this lesson further by channeling Anti-Magic into his Zetten.

The best example comes during Asta’s fight against the Five-Headed Dragon. After training to master Zetten, Asta uses the technique to strike and finally bring down the enormous beast. That is also what makes the comparison with Jujutsu Kaisen‘s Black Flash so compelling. Black Flash occurs when a sorcerer applies cursed energy to a physical attack within an incredibly small window of time. The resulting distortion greatly increases the attack’s power.

Like Zetten, it rewards fighters who can control their energy and land a hit at exactly the right moment. Black Flash turns a well-timed punch into a devastating attack, while Zetten lets Asta release a concentrated burst of power through his body and weapons. Both show how precision can make a fighter far more dangerous than raw strength alone.

And, together, True Devil Union and Zetten show how Asta has grown from a boy with no magic into a fighter who can challenge the strongest opponents. Now the big question: Which of Asta’s abilities impresses you the most? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
