Spider-Man: Brand New Day Is Getting a Re-release With Deleted Daredevil Character

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is reportedly gearing up for a re-release in theaters, but this time with additional footage that was not included in the original release. According to Deadline, there is no official re-release date yet, but it’s safe to assume that Sony would reserve some sort of premium large-format screens at the theaters. Currently, the movie has a runtime of 2 hours and 25 minutes. It is hard to say how many minutes of extra footage will be added to the re-release.

This comes as the Marvel movie continues to dominate the box office. Released on July 31, 2026, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has grossed about $2.5 billion (via Box Office Mojo) in worldwide box office. It is the highest-grossing movie of all time at the domestic box office, and only the third movie to achieve the feat globally after Avatar and Avengers: Endgame. There are also reports that the Destin Daniel Cretton movie starring Tom Holland and Zendaya will extend its theatrical run till November 16, thanks to its box office success.

According to Deadline, the re-release will include, but not be limited to, footage featuring the recurring Marvel TV character Claire Temple. Rosario Dawson, who plays Temple, said at the GalaxyCon Raleigh 2026 panel that she shot a scene for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but it didn’t make it to the final cut. “So, yeah, I’m a reject of Spider-Man,” she said.

Temple, who is a nurse aiding the vigilantes, had significant appearances in the first and second seasons of Marvel’s Daredevil TV series, which aired from 2015 to 2016. So, her character being included in the re-release of the Spider-Man movie is great news for Daredevil fans. Dawson’s Temple has also appeared in Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and The Defenders.

As mentioned above, the Tom Holland flick is the biggest movie of all time at the North American domestic box office. At the same time, it is also Sony’s highest-grossing film ever, taking over Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), also starring Holland, which grossed $1.92 billion worldwide. That explains why the studio would want to have a re-release with additional footage right now.

Sony also follows in the footsteps of Disney, which re-released Avengers: Endgame on September 25, 2026, almost 7 years after it was originally released. The re-release version, titled Avengers: Endgame Encore, grossed $86 million (via The Numbers) worldwide, adding to the original release’s $2.799 billion. However, with a lifetime gross of $2.885 billion, it still follows behind Avatar, which grossed $2.92 billion worldwide.
