Russo Brothers Working on Third Avengers Movie After Doomsday and Secret Wars (Report)

Industry scooper Alex Perez revealed in a June 2026 Q&A via Cosmic Circus that Joe and Anthony Russo are reportedly planning to make another Avengers movie after Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Responding to a fan, the insider said:

Just the exploration of a two-parter. I can confirm through sources and evidence provided recently that the Russos have another Avengers film that they’re working on aside from Doomsday and Secret Wars. Based on their statements, there’s a chance it’ll involve splitting Secret Wars into two; however, it could also be the next Avengers installment.

If the reports hold true, Marvel may have an even bigger Avengers roadmap in the works than fans expected. Whether it’s Secret Wars expanding into a two-part epic or an entirely new Avengers film, the possibility signals that the MCU’s next chapter could be even more ambitious.

Insider Reveals Marvel Will “Retool” Avengers After Secret Wars

While details remain scarce about this rumored new Avengers movie, Perez also previously revealed Marvel’s plan to overhaul the franchise. When asked if Doomsday and Secret Wars will be the final Avengers films, he confirmed (via Cosmic Circus):

Absolutely not. The Avengers brand will be retooled moving forward, post-Secret Wars.

The insider noted that Marvel Studios recognizes the commercial strength of the franchise and is reportedly exploring ways to release Avengers films more regularly rather than limiting them to large-scale crossover events that require years of planning and extensive cast coordination.

If this approach materializes, this strategy will allow Marvel to alternate between saga-defining ensemble blockbusters and more traditional Avengers team stories. In the same post, Perez confirmed that the studio is planning the next Avengers storyline, specifically a cosmic-scale narrative. The scooper shared two possible directions:

One route they originally planned was the massive blockbuster team-up film tying into Judgement Day, featuring the Eternals, the Celestials, and the Horde.

A newer route they plan to take features a smaller-scale story with Annihilus and the Annihilation Wave, who will serve as the main antagonist of the film and be introduced in an upcoming Disney+ project as a secondary antagonist for the Nova Corps. The villains of that show would be high-ranking members of his army, possibly Admiral Salo or one of his concubines, Eradica, Extirpia, or Extermina.

As exciting as these sound, fans should take these rumors with a grain of salt as Marvel has yet to make a confirmation or official announcement.

Russo Brothers Share Update on Avengers: Secret Wars Production

With the hype surrounding the next MCU chapter, the Russo Brothers have broken their silence on the development of Secret Wars, sharing a new update as work on Doomsday moves forward. Speaking via Deadline’s Reality TV Summit UK at SXSW London, Joe Russo shared:

We are doing some work still on Doomsday and will be until probably they rip it out of our hands in November and that just means they have to give it to other people, to finish it for a few weeks, and then we’re in the middle of what we would call pre-production… we like doing many things at the same time.

Meanwhile, Anthony Russo explained that both upcoming Avengers movies are developed as one complete story, with their current focus ending there. They didn’t rule out working with Marvel Studios again, citing there’s always a possibility, although at the time, they stressed that no concrete plans exist beyond Secret Wars as of yet.

The duo’s comment clearly suggests that they are fully focused on giving a clear ending to the Multiverse Saga before thinking about any future Avengers projects, which is great since it prevents the studio from rushing into the next phase too early.
