Capcom has confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem will receive story DLC down the line, but details have been scarce until now. In a candid moment at Meadowlark Comic Con (via Polygon), one of the game’s writers let slip that the expansion will dig deeper into the series’ antagonist Oswell Spencer, the man whose fingerprints are all over the zombie-outbreak lore.
What he revealed suggests the DLC won’t just be a side story, and could possibly reshape how fans understand one of Resident Evil’s most villainous figures. Here’s what he said.
Writer Haris Orkin Teases Spencer’s Expanded Role in Resident Evil Requiem’s DLC

The original Resident Evil mansion is even named after him, and for most of the franchise’s history, he’s been portrayed as an unapologetic, power-hungry figure with little redeeming value. He was killed off in Resident Evil 5.
That’s what made Requiem’s approach to the character so unexpected. Through flashback sequences, the new game paints a more sympathetic picture of Spencer, implying that he may have felt genuine remorse later in life. Speaking on the Distance Nerding podcast, writer Haris Orkin confirmed this isn’t a one-off narrative choice; it’s something the story is actively building toward. And the upcoming DLC will push that characterization even further.
Orkin seemed to catch himself mid-reveal, joking that he “probably shouldn’t say that,” but the comment all but confirms Spencer will be central to the expansion rather than a minor callback.
How Spencer’s Arc Could Reshape a Resident Evil 5 Remake

In Resident Evil 5‘s Lost in Nightmares DLC, which takes place after the moments shown in Requiem’s flashbacks, Spencer is still shown as cold and unrepentant right up until his death. That timeline mismatch is exactly why fans are speculating that Capcom may be laying groundwork for something bigger than a single expansion.
With the remake series having already proven commercially successful, and only a handful of mainline entries left untouched, a Resident Evil 5 remake feels inevitable. If Spencer’s more complex motivations introduced in Requiem carry over, the studio could use a remake to retcon his character more significantly than in past remakes, which have typically made only minor narrative tweaks.
Most importantly, nothing is officially confirmed beyond Orkin’s comments, and the studio hasn’t laid out a release window for the DLC. But between the flashback reveals in the base game and the writer’s own words, it’s becoming clear that Oswell Spencer’s story isn’t finished.
