The report by TMZ Sports said that the 56-year-old San Diego native had spent time recently in an addiction treatment centre, but that he had already checked out. A spokesperson for Mickelson told the outlet that the three-time Masters champion was “seeking treatment for family trauma and addiction.”

The news came three months after the ex-wife of professional golfer Pat Perez accused the married Mickelson of propositioning her while they were staying at his home and after Mickelson was booted from a San Diego-area golf club over allegations of non-consensual contact with a female staff member.

Mickelson, who has also admitted to a gambling addiction, has mostly stayed away from the spotlight since then and has only played in one tournament this year: A LIV Golf tournament in South Africa in March.

He skipped April’s Masters tournament to deal with a family health matter, posting on social media that he wished “everyone the best of luck and will be watching,” Golfweek reported.

‘Full attention’ on family?

Around the time that reports of an alleged incident at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Sante Fe, north of San Diego, surfaced, reps for Mickelson told TMZ that his “priority is to become the husband, father and man his family deserves.

“Right now, that means giving his full attention to a private family health matter,” they said. “He understands that parts of his life are public, but his family’s private matters are not.”

Mickelson was banned from the exclusive Farms Golf Club in June after being accused of inappropriate contact with a female staff member, who reported the incident to club management. His attorney, however, said he resigned from the club, according to Fox News.

“Following a staff member report of member misconduct, the club provided immediate and ongoing support to the staff member, conducted a thorough independent investigation of the incident and took decisive action,” a statement from the club said at the time. “This individual is no longer a member of The Farms Golf Club.”

Mickelson accused of propositioning golfer’s ex-wife

Mickelson, who captained the Hi Flyer team on the embattled LIV Golf circuit, was also accused of showing Perez’s then-wife Ashley a nude photo of himself while the couple was staying at his home in 2015 and allegedly propositioned her as well.

After showing Ashley the picture of himself with an erection, according to a report in Skratch, Mickelson, who has been married to his wife Amy since 1996, told her: “I’m going to leave my bedroom door open tonight. When Pat falls asleep, I want you to come see me.”

Mickelson’s lawyer slammed the report at the time as a “pursuit of clicks at the expense of truth.

“A small segment of the golf media has decided that because Mr. Mickelson is a successful golfer, every detail of his private and family life is theirs to exploit,” attorney Tom Clare said. “Recycling mistakes he has already acknowledged as new reporting – and dragging private family matters into public view – is reckless.”

Mickelson’s wife defended him after the report, although TMZ reported that she was later spotted without her wedding ring.
