Ontario Provincial Police said that charges are pending after a driver, who was reportedly engaged in street racing on Hwy. 401, struck a person standing outside of their vehicle on the shoulder of the highway in Mississauga on Sunday morning.

The incident happened around midnight in the westbound express lanes of the 401 near Renforth Dr., just south of Toronto Pearson International Airport.

Cops said that vehicles were reportedly racing in the area and one of the drivers struck a person who had stopped on the shoulder to check a tractor-trailer load.

The victim was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police said the driver directly involved in the crash stopped, while the other vehicle involved did not remain at the scene. Both vehicles involved in the street racing were BMWs, police said.

The two left lanes of the 401 westbound near Renforth remained closed as of late Sunday afternoon and police said to expect delays in the area.

Toronto cops seek suspect in daylight shooting

Toronto Police are on the hunt for a suspect after a man in his 20s was found shot in Fort York on Sunday afternoon.

Cops said they received reports of what sounded like a gunshot at 2:30 p.m. in the Queens Wharf Rd. and Fort York Blvd. area.

Officers found a man with a gunshot wound and he was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Cops said the suspect was seen fleeing from the area in a red SUV.

Police said that the incident happened outside and is believe to have been targeted.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call police at 416-808-1400.
