October’s 6 Upcoming Horror Movie Releases Officially Challenge Clayface

6 days ago 13

DC is ringing in Halloween this October with Clayface, a body horror take on the iconic villain, with a screenplay by the current horror master, Mike Flanagan. The film comes near the end of the month on October 23, but fans need not wait so long to turn their horror on. There are plenty of scary movies in the lineup this month that are sure to keep the tone creepy and chilling.

Spiders, possessed closets, cannibal towns, and a strange poodle breeder are all arriving within the same few weeks. If you are planning a spooky season movie schedule, these six upcoming releases deserve a spot on it. Each offers a distinct flavor of fear, and each is ready to steal attention from the clay-covered king of the month.

1 Other Mommy

If you were not able to get nightmares for years after watching Coraline, do not worry. Other Mommy has got you. Starring Jessica Chastain and directed by Rob Savage (known for his Host and The Boogeyman), the upcoming film follows an eight-year-old girl named Bela who finds a mysterious entity in her closet that wreaks all kinds of havoc.

Chastain plays Ursula, Bela’s actual mother, who has to do everything in her power to save her daughter from the evil clutches of this doppelganger entity. Based on the novel Incidents Around the House, the film is produced by horror master James Wan and also stars Jay Duplass. It opens on October 9, 2026, so you can ring in Halloween early this year.

2 Devour

Writer-director Scott B. Hansen delivers heavy metal horror with Devour, packed with practical effects and monster mayhem. An all-female metal band known as The Virginia Bitches is left stranded after a disastrous gig.

When the musicians stop to help a woman in danger, they land in a remote town ruled by a powerful warlock and filled with cannibals, vampires, and a deadly werewolf. With nowhere to run, the band must tap into dark powers of its own to survive until morning. The film runs 113 minutes and is a loud, gory pick for midnight crowds.

3 Fresh Meat

Another YouTube-origin horror film after Backrooms is coming. We have to see if this anthology from the Dead Meat and Hades channel would see similar success. The film is an anthology consisting of thirteen horror shorts taken from a FilmFreeway submission and put together with one common narrative thread. Dead Meat co-host James A. Janisse directed the wraparound story, Sate the Screen, in which a little girl in the back of a butcher shop watches terrifying tales on a screen that must be fed. An interesting gamble that could go either way.

The film is set to release in select theatres on October 12 as a one-night event. So strap in to have one evening of incredible scares before Halloween strikes at the end of the month.

4 Crawlers

If you want to prepare for the body horror shenanigans of Clayface, then watch Crawlers on October 16, 2026. The film is directed by Ángel Gómez Hernández. When a catastrophic infestation of venomous spiders spreads through a building, police impose a quarantine, and the residents are sealed in with the creatures as they multiply. Written by Jayson Rothwell, the film runs a lean 81 minutes and promises squirm-in-your-seat thrills.

5 Breeder

Breeder debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival in June and will be out in cinemas just in time for Halloween. The film, which explores eugenics through a dog breeder, opens on October 28, 2026. Patti, played by Dot Marie Jones, lures a broke college student, played by Daniel Doheny, to her remote ranch with an offer of research funding. The catch, as the trailer reveals, is that he has been brought there as a subject for human breeding.

Director Kevin Lewis, the filmmaker behind Willy’s Wonderland, returns with an action horror comedy about the Seversons, a family who move into a quiet suburban neighborhood. Their neighbors, the Kringles, celebrate Christmas year-round, and when son Bobby goes missing inside the Kringles’ home, parents Mark and Julie, played by Ron Livingston and Rachel Bilson, discover a sinister plan to hypnotize and indoctrinate them. Expect bloody, bonkers holiday chaos arriving in theaters on October 30.
