‘Obsession’ Meets ‘Unbreakable’ in Scream 7 Star’s Upcoming September 15 Blumhouse Horror

Blumhouse Atomic Monster has another high-concept horror movie waiting in the wings. The Last Kiss, led by Scream 7 star McKenna Grace, arrives digitally on September 15, 2026, with a vicious supernatural hook: teenager Laurel discovers that kissing someone allows her to see how that person will die. The movie arrives during an extraordinary year for Blumhouse-adjacent horror. Curry Barker’s Obsession turned romantic desire into a supernatural trap and has now earned more than $512 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. The Last Kiss flips that poisoned-romance formula around: Laurel is not wishing for somebody to love her; intimacy itself activates the nightmare.

The other half of the headline comes from Unbreakable. M. Night Shyamalan’s 2000 thriller follows David Dunn as he slowly discovers extraordinary abilities after surviving a catastrophic train crash without injury. Laurel’s death visions are obviously a different power, but The Last Kiss shares that enticing starting point of an ordinary person discovering that the rules governing their life have suddenly changed.

Grace earns the Scream 7 billing, too. Paramount officially lists her among the cast of Kevin Williamson’s 2026 sequel alongside Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Isabel May, Mason Gooding, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and others.

Obsession Meets Unbreakable With One Deadly Kiss

Obsession begins with Bear using the mysterious “One Wish Willow” to make his crush Nikki fall in love with him, only to discover that getting exactly what he wanted carries a horrific price. Focus Features itself describes the movie as a horror story about a young man using the novelty trinket to win his secret crush. The Last Kiss takes a neat mirror-image approach. Laurel wants the fairy-tale experience of a first kiss, but each kiss instead shows her a person’s death. When one vision reveals that her crush is destined to die during a strange murder spree targeting her friends, she has to turn the curse into an investigative weapon.

That also explains the Unbreakable comparison without pretending the films tell the same story. David Dunn gradually uncovers his superhuman nature after surviving the Eastrail 177 disaster; Laurel discovers a paranormal gift that forces her to rethink seemingly ordinary interactions. Both premises derive their tension from the same tantalizing question: what do you do after realizing something impossible about yourself is real?

Director Yoko Okumura calls The Last Kiss a “colorful fun teen slasher romance” and says the film takes the genuine anxiety around a first kiss and pushes it toward “life or death stakes” (via Horror Society interview). She also cites the mythology surrounding kissing as inspiration for the movie’s fairy-tale aesthetic, score, and visual language.

The latest major update arrived September 11, when promotional coverage unveiled the trailer just days before release. The Last Kiss premieres September 15, 2026, exclusively on digital retail platforms through Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. The release is designed for at-home rental or purchase with no subscription required rather than an initial subscription-streaming launch.

The trailer lays out Laurel’s curse immediately: “Whenever I kiss people, I think I can see how they’re going to die.” After a vision points toward a massacre, her friends encourage her to kiss more people and narrow down who the killer could be, turning romantic awkwardness into a supernatural murder investigation. Grace plays Laurel Hansen, with Jaden Michael as Evan Geller and Arkira Chantaratananond as Poppy Yang. Apple TV lists the movie at 1 hour and 37 minutes and credits Okumura as director. 

Okumura also co-wrote the screenplay with Alon Ziv and Krystal Houghton Ziv. Jason Blum, Sébastien K. Lemercier, James DeMonaco, and cinematographer Michael Fimognari are credited among the producers, while Tangelene Bolton composed the score after previously working with Okumura on Unseen. So the headline earns both comparisons. Obsession supplies the cursed-romance kinship, while Unbreakable provides the allure of discovering a life-altering supernatural ability. Add Grace’s fresh Scream 7 credentials and a September 15 digital release, and The Last Kiss has a tidy horror pitch just as the fall season begins.
