From ‘TANK CHAIR’ to ‘A Certain Dark Item’: Every New Anime Coming in October 2026

October 2026 is about to turn the anime calendar into absolute chaos, and frankly, it has the audacity to look this stacked. From a killer in a weaponized wheelchair in TANK CHAIR to the shadowy underworld of A Certain Dark Item, the month is bringing fantasy adventures, romance, amazing supernatural thrillers, gambling battles, classic manga revivals, and some wonderfully bizarre concepts. And that is before the season starts throwing its lesser-known wild cards at viewers.

In other words: prepare your watchlist, because October is coming in like it has something to prove.

Most Anticipated New Anime Making Their Debuts This October

Leading the charge is TANK CHAIR. Based on Manabu Yashiro’s manga, the series centers on Nagi Taira, a former assassin left comatose after protecting his younger sister, Shizuka. His condition comes with an absurdly dangerous loophole: murderous intent can jolt him awake and send his assassin instincts into overdrive. Shizuka consequently goes looking for increasingly formidable opponents to help bring her brother back to his former self. Produced by Polygon Pictures, TANK CHAIR premieres on October 4, bringing one of the season’s strangest premises to television.

Then there is From Far Away, a much older story finally getting its long-awaited anime moment. Kyoko Hikawa’s fantasy manga originally ran from 1991 to 2002, following high-school student Noriko after she is transported to another world and becomes entangled with the mysterious warrior Izark. The manga builds a sweeping story around prophecy, danger, romance and the fate of its new world. The adaptation arrives on October 4, with Studio DEEN handling animation and Noriyuki Abe directing.

The season is also resurrecting another fan-favorite manga that has spent years sitting on the “how has this not been animated?” shelf. PSYREN, Toshiaki Iwashiro’s supernatural action series that ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2008 to 2010, finally makes its television debut on October 5. Its story begins with high-schooler Ageha Yoshina becoming involved with the mysterious Psyren after investigating the disappearance of his friend Amamiya. What follows is a dangerous journey involving psychic abilities, a hostile alternate world, and a much larger mystery surrounding Psyren itself. SATELIGHT is producing the adaptation.

A Certain Dark Item represents the month going straight for established franchise power. The latest spinoff from Kazuma Kamachi’s sprawling A Certain Magical Index universe turns the spotlight toward ITEM, the underground organization operating within Academy City’s infamous Dark Side. Shizuri Mugino, Riko Takitsubo, Frenda Seivelun and Saiai Kinuhata take center stage as the series explores the dangerous missions that exist far away from Academy City’s polished public image. Based on Kamachi’s light novel spinoff, the anime is being produced by J.C.STAFF, with A Certain Scientific Railgun veteran Tatsuyuki Nagai directing. It arrives on October 9, 2026.
