Obsession Director’s Next Movie With Breaking Bad Star Officially Sets Release Date

Obsession director Curry Barker’s next movie has officially revealed its release date. Starring Curry Barker himself, the film will also include Cooper Tomlinson, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul. Titled Anything But Ghosts, the film has been confirmed to release on May 7, 2027, with a theatrical release.

The news was shared on X, wherein the plot of Anything But Ghosts was also discussed. The premise follows 2 con artists whose fake ghost-hunting business spirals out of control after encountering a real ghost. Check out the tweet below:

With a funny premise at its core, Curry Barker has been known for upping the horror antics with his directorial debut flick, Obsession. There would be no better way to explain this film than how actor Cooper Tomlinson described it.

Obsession Director’s Next Work Is Key & Peele Meets Hereditary

With the premise of 2 con artists encountering a real ghost, the film does seem quite funny. However, knowing Curry Barker’s love for dark humor and horror, we are pretty confident that the film will feature elements of horror plenty of times.

Cooper Tomlinson, who will be playing one of the lead roles in Curry Barker’s upcoming movie, revealed that the movie is a mixture of comedy and horror, both to an extreme. Here’s what he said on the Raiders of the Lost Podcast

The movie’s like if Key and Peele walked into Hereditary. It’s a buddy comedy, you know, about these two guys, and it turns really scary.

Aside from Anything But Ghosts, I now do want to see Key & Peele being a part of Hereditary. However, Tomlinson’s description fits the premise and Curry Barker’s style quite accurately.

Curry Baker Confirms Obsession Cinematic Universe With Anything But Ghosts

Back in May 2026, director Curry Barker was talking about Anything But Ghosts and slyly confirmed that the events of Obsession (his previous movie) are set in the same universe as Anything But Ghosts (his upcoming project). This essentially confirmed that the Obsession cinematic universe does exist, and Barker might have more plans for the same.

During a post-screening Q&A, the director decided to tease about the shared nature of these two movies. He stated that in the next movie, there’s a news article that references Obsession.

There’s like a news article thing on the next movie where you hear a news anchor talking about a triple homicide [by] a woman.

Fans may remember that at the end of Obsession, Bear’s spell breaks when he kills himself, but Nikki’s obsessive rage had already taken the lives of her friends Sarah and Ian.

Naturally, with a shared universe, the door to unsettling horrors from Curry Barker’s mind opens further. Although it hasn’t explicitly been stated what Barker wishes to do with a cinematic universe, we sure wish the director good luck in redefining the horror genre for modern audiences.
