Nippon Sangoku Episode 6 Review: Peak Visual Execution

With the Nippon Sangoku Episode 6, titled “Eve of War“, released on Sunday, May 10, 2026, we enter a new and intense part of the narrative as the ever-teased war between Seii and Yamato finally begins. The main delivery is actually how the war begins, regardless of the traditional way.

And once again, there is not much to say about how beautiful the animation looks. Studio Kafka keeps up the good work, and this episode might just have been the true testament to it. Without further ado, here’s what went down in Nippon Sangoku Episode 6.

Sugou’s Arrest Delivers the Shock Factor the Episode Needed

While we begin with the news of Yamato’s troops’ arrival at the Kaga Province, the peak highlight came at the bridge of the Tedori River. As messengers relayed the news to Gou Sugou and Tonotsugu Taira’s company regarding a banquet hosted by Muuton Nagoa, Sugou saw right through it. As Tonotsugu decided to accept the invitation, Sugou interrupted him with his opinion.

As Sugou explained, they were completely unaware of the surrounding provinces, like Noto and Etchu. Once they crossed the river, there was no turning back for them. Instead of attending the banquet, Sugoh advised they camp on the bridge and scout out the neighbouring area first before proceeding. This suggestion annoyed Tonotsugu, who immediately had Sugou arrested.

A Deceptive Narrative That Marks the Beginning of Seii vs. Yamato

Even if we keep aside the Sugou part, the main narrative of the episode that made it peak was the war that commenced between Seii and Yamato. While Muuton distracted Tonotsugu and the others with his banquet feast, the Seii army crossed the province and attacked Yamato.

Back at the HQ, Misumi revealed that even if Seii had the perfect opportunity to attack Yamato’s forces at Kanazawa, it was still their territory and they would likely avoid further damage. Hence, the best course of their attack would be sneaking past the mountain and entering Yamato, targeting the stronghold at Okuetsu, Kuzuryu Castle. And before he could finish his analysis, the episode shifted to a scenario just like that.

While the stronghold general Yoshinaga Sato explained to Hina that they would have to hold until the night before Ryumon returns, the Seii army had already marched in near the main keep. The Seii commander Aterui Kura announced that if they handed him Sato’s head, the Seii army would let the other soldiers leave. However, Hina and the others decided to stand their ground as the episode ended on a massive cliffhanger.

Nippon Sangoku Episode 6 Final Verdict

Episode 6 was peak perfection – the narrative was great, the animation was on point, the background score was intense – everything about it screamed absolute cinema. From the very beginning of the anime series, we’ve been getting one peak narrative after the other, and while we thought things couldn’t get any better than Episode 5, the recent episode proved us wrong yet again.

Coming to the animation quality of the episode, it was on par with what the series has been producing so far, if not substantially better. From the timed motion-blurs to the dramatic and environmental lighting of the foreground and background models, the balance was just right. Additionally, there was no rigidity in the animation and movement of the characters, especially in the army scenes, where it is tough to maintain a perfect consistency without any blowouts.
