FROM Season 4 Episode 4 Ending Explained: What’s in the Lake?

Following the ending of FROM Season 4 Episode 3, a handful of the town’s citizens are terrified of The Man in Yellow. As they continue to embark on separate quests to dive deeper into their association with the town, the Matthews family stumbles upon new twists that only add to the mystery of FROM.

Ethan and Tabitha’s Lake of Tears foray saw a few of the townsfolk find a rope that connected to the lake. Pulling on it, a net resurfaces out of the water. Inside this net lies a new mystery that will eventually reveal itself to be scarecrows with a sinister agenda. How did this new horror get unleashed?

Mystery of the Lake Explained

After Jim’s beyond-the-grave message to Ethan regarding the Lake of Tears, the boy embarks with his mother to bring his father back. Putting two and two together from the promo footage, a clue as to what they’ve found at the lake might be a pile of scarecrows buried deep within the waters.

Scarecrows were used to ward off unnecessary visitors, but what happens when they themselves are unwanted? Trailer footage shows the group camping at a settlement inside a small wooden house. Supposedly, these scarecrows come to life and break into the woods in a frightful jumpscare.

Who these scarecrows are remains a mystery. Time works weirdly inside FROM, as proven by Julie’s time-traveling abilities to different versions of the town’s history. Were these scarecrows a remnant of the previous group of citizens? The Man in Yellow is likely connected to this, as Season 4 Episode 4 saw him feast on the remains of the former townsfolk.

Victor’s connection to the town gives us more speculation as to how he wants to get ahead of The Man in Yellow. Continuing his tree-tracing from the earlier seasons, will we see him crack the rules of FROM?

FROM S4E4: Rampant Myth and Religious Terror

FROM Season 4 Episode 4 was a wild, mind-bending ride of dread. Aside from the Matthews family, the rest of the main cast is arguably losing their mind. Fatima attempts to build a golem that she hopes will guard the town. According to her father’s mythic storytelling, these golems were giants made out of mud that would act as champions.

Sophia continues her agenda, with her new victim being Sara. The latter is hearing voices that threaten to hurt people she cares about. In a scene that blends the story of Abraham from the Bible with the events of the town, Sophia (The Man in Yellow) appears to be testing Sara like God.

Boyd and Jade are on a trip of their own, with the latter literally consuming magic mushrooms to unlock the secrets of his mind and his connection to the town. Not much transpires here, with the focus turning to Julie.

Julie attempts to gain more control over her “Storywalker” abilities, going back in time to see if she can place a bookmark that will allow her to travel back and forth. It is in this moment that she comes across the frightening Man in Yellow, who looks just as puzzled as she is.

The Man in Yellow is feasting on the remains of the town, and from what we know, Victor is the only survivor of this massacre. FROM is building itself to be a time-bending Season 4, and it looks like only Julie and Victor might hold the answers to the future.

We are reaching the mid-point of the season, and Sophia will sew more chaos in disguise. Her far-reaching, horrific abilities have been used to a minimal extent so far, inducing more dread for what’s to come.
