Benedict Cumberbatch vs Cyclist Controversy Explained: What Really Happened In London

Benedict Cumberbatch made headlines recently when he reportedly got into a heated argument with a fellow cyclist in London. As reported by The Sun, the altercation took place near the King’s Cross Station in the city.

Fans were left shocked when the Dr Strange star got down from his cycle to approach a masked biker at around 5:30 PM on Tuesday. Passersby looked shocked when the two began arguing on the side of the road in the cycle lane. 

Cyclist Calls Benedict Cumberbatch Deluded in Heated Exchange

As per the videos being shared on social media (via The Sun / X) and passerby accounts, Benedict Cumberbatch reportedly ran a red light in the cycle lane while another cyclist followed him. The man reportedly called the actor out, stating, “I knew you were going to do that.”

Cumberbatch got down from his cargo bike and approached the biker, and the exchange reportedly turned into an argument. The biker, in red trousers, wearing a cap and with his face covered, called the actor “deluded” and a liar. 

Cumberbatch, too, hit back and accused him of being verbally abusive. The other biker responded that he “verbally abused the guy who completely broke the law,” while the actor replied that he did do it once. 

The other biker then stated that the Sherlock Holmes star allegedly went through a zebra crossing as well as three red lights, claims which the actor vehemently denied. 

Their argument lasted around 10 minutes, and as per the videos being shared online, a woman also intervened. They reportedly “went at each other about five times,” as per eyewitnesses who told The Sun, and even blocked the cycle lane while arguing.

Following the altercation, the Dr Strange star reportedly calmed down and even posed with two young fans for a selfie. Onlookers, who filmed the confrontation, told The Sun that it “was such a pompous road rage it almost felt like it had been staged. “

The actor managed to “charm everyone“ who was watching the exchange, even though he looked disturbed. School kids also approached the actor, asking if he was Dr Strange and wanting a selfie. The actor reportedly took a moment before he shared a moment with his young fans.

The incident left the onlookers and his fans shocked, seeing the actor in a public argument on busy London roads. This is not the first time that Benedict Cumberbatch has had a feud with a ‘cyclist.’

In 2019, he reportedly knocked off a cyclist while driving his Lamborghini on the Isle of Wight and even got slapped in the ensuing argument (via The Sun). Back in 2018, the actor also saved a cyclist when he was mugged by robbers on Baker Street (via NPR).

The actor or his representatives are yet to offer any words about what took place on Tuesday.
