Groceries and essentials top-up payment coming this week to eligible Canadians

Canadian families and individuals eligible for the GST/HST credit will see a one-time top-up payment in their bank accounts this week. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) said those entitled to the rebranded Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit (CGEB) will be given an additional payment of 50% of their previous GST/HST credit on Friday.

Controversial Pickering Councillor Lisa Robinson has announced she will run in the fall election for the mayor’s seat in the city east of Toronto. “This campaign is not powered by insiders; it is powered by you, the people, and when ordinary people stand together, nothing is stronger,” Robinson said Sunday. “So if you believe Pickering deserves honest leadership, if you believe taxpayers deserve respect, if you believe questions should never be punished, then stand with me.”

Lamborghini crashes onto Hwy. 403 in Brantford allegedly after racing motorcycle
A motorcyclist faces impaired driving charges after allegedly racing with a Lamborghini on a rural road in Brantford – an incident that ended with the high-end sports car soaring through the air and crashing onto a busy highway. Brant County Ontario Provincial Police say the crash occurred on Hwy. 403 just east of Rest Acres Rd. around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Frustrated Canadians skipping U.S. border mess for new non-stop Caribbean options
With Canadians now seeking vacation options outside the United States, a boutique Caribbean airline is offering easier access to some fun in the sun. BermudAir, founded in 2023, announced a slate of new routes on Wednesday — including direct service from Toronto Pearson to Turks and Caicos, with a seamless connecting route to the exclusive enclave of Anguilla, which is normally difficult to access by air.

Four more arrests for alleged hate-motivated assaults targeting Toronto’s Jewish community
Toronto Police announced the arrest of four more individuals they allege were involved in suspected hate-motivated attacks targeting the city’s Jewish community earlier this spring. Police said the arrests were made by the Counter Terrorism Security Unit last month after separate incidences along the Bathurst St. corridor on April 30 and May 7 saw members of the Jewish community come under attack from Orbeez-style guns that fire gel beads.
