The upcoming Naruto live-action movie has reportedly remained fairly faithful to Masashi Kishimoto’s original story, but several leaked details from industry insider Daniel Richtman on X suggest the adaptation will still take some major liberties. From Sakura receiving a power boost to completely new family circumstances, these rumored changes could make the live-action version feel quite different from the manga and anime.

Some are harmless enough to work within the existing story, while others directly contradict established Naruto lore. None of these details have been officially confirmed, but based on how closely they match the source material, here’s every reported leak ranked from the most accurate to the most blasphemous.

6 The Movie Stays Faithful While Making Some Necessary Changes

This is easily the most source-accurate leak because it does not actually contradict anything from Naruto. A live-action adaptation was never going to reproduce every scene, conversation, and character beat exactly as they appeared in the manga. Some changes are practically inevitable when condensing a long story into a feature film.

The reported Land of Waves focus also gives the movie a strong foundation in Kishimoto’s original material. Even the claim that it will not be 100% accurate leaves plenty of room for adaptation choices. That’s why this comfortably takes the sixth spot.

5 Sakura Starts Out Much Stronger Than She Was Originally

Sakura Haruno already had one important advantage in the original story: her excellent chakra control. However, she was nowhere near the powerhouse she eventually became under Tsunade when Team 7 first formed. Giving her more developed abilities from the beginning would therefore change her early role, particularly during the team’s first major mission.

Still, this is an easy alteration for a live-action adaptation to make without rewriting her entire character. Sakura’s personality, background, and place on Team 7 could remain intact. That’s why this ranks fifth: it’s a noticeable power change, but hardly a destruction of canon.

4 Naruto Is Apparently a Ninja History Nerd in the Movie

This version of Naruto would certainly feel different from the boy audiences originally met. The manga’s Naruto struggles academically and is notorious for failing at the Academy, even though he eventually proves himself through determination and experience.

Giving him a genuine interest in ninja history could add an unexpected layer to his personality without changing his childhood, abilities, or relationships. It is also not necessarily impossible to reconcile with canon, since being bad at school does not mean Naruto could not be fascinated by a particular subject. It ranks fourth because it changes his characterization more than his actual story.

3 Sakura Comes From a Wealthy Family With a Tragic Past

This reported change rewrites much more of Sakura’s history. In the original story, Sakura’s parents, Kizashi and Mebuki Haruno, are both alive, and her family is not presented as wealthy or especially influential.

The alleged movie version instead gives Sakura a wealthy, snobbish mother and has her father die during Kurama’s attack on Konoha. That would give Sakura an entirely different childhood and potentially explain aspects of her personality that never existed in the manga. It is still possible in a separate adaptation, but it represents a major rewrite of her backstory.

2 Sasuke Loves Sakura While Naruto Doesn’t Have a Crush

This leak completely rearranges one of the most recognizable relationship dynamics surrounding Team 7. In the original story, Sakura develops feelings for Sasuke, while Naruto has an obvious crush on Sakura. Sasuke, particularly during the early story, is far more concerned with revenge against Itachi than romance.

Making Sasuke the one who has romantic feelings for Sakura while removing Naruto’s crush changes the emotional triangle from the moment Team 7 is formed, even if the intended change is subtle. The characters can still follow the same broad storyline, but their interpersonal dynamic would be substantially different. That’s why it ranks second.

1 Jinchuriki Can Only Exist Through a Specific Bloodline

This is easily the most blasphemous leak because it doesn’t merely change a character; it changes one of the world’s fundamental rules. In the original story, becoming a jinchuriki is not restricted to people with a particular bloodline.

Villages select hosts and seal tailed beasts inside them, while Naruto becomes Kurama’s jinchuriki after Minato seals the Nine-Tails into him during its attack on Konoha. Kushina’s Uzumaki heritage makes her particularly suitable for containing Kurama, but jinchuriki status itself is not a hereditary ability. Turning it into a bloodline requirement would fundamentally rewrite Naruto’s origin.
