Marvel’s New Professor X Hasn’t Read the X-Men Script Yet

Christopher Abbott nabbed the role of Professor X for Marvel‘s upcoming X-Men movie. However, the actor has revealed that he has yet to read the script. “I haven’t read anything yet. I’m not even being coy. It’s true, I haven’t read anything,” he told Entertainment Tonight. While his character Charles Xavier has the power to read minds, Abbott himself is in the dark about the upcoming X-Men movie.

Nonetheless, he appears to be looking forward to taking on the coveted role. “But I’m excited to work with Jake Schreier. I think he’s a great director, and that cast is really good. I can’t wait. I love X-Men,” he told the outlet.

Alongside Abbott, Sadie Sink, Kit Connor, Adam Driver, Samara Weaving, Inde Navarrette, Maya Boyd, and Asa Germann are confirmed to join the reboot.

Sure, Professor X marks Christopher Abbott‘s debut in the MCU, but it isn’t his first Marvel role overall. In 2024, he starred as Foreginer in the Sony movie Kraven the Hunter. Foreginer was introduced in Marvel Comics as a supervillain. The elite assassin first appeared in Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man in 1986. However, Abbott himself wasn’t exactly thrilled about playing the character in the 2024 film.

He admitted on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, “I didn’t know what I was doing in that.” Abbott also said that while filming the movie, he was more conflicted about it all. Nonetheless, the actor has ‘guaranteed’ that the upcoming X-Men movie would be better than Kraven. Abbott is taking over Professor X from Sir Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy. His casting was announced in August at D23.

Marvel has set the release date for 2028. The new X-Men movie will hit theaters on May 5, 2028. The studio has not officially announced a filming start date. According to industry reports, principal photography for the reboot is expected to begin in 2027, with early production activities gaining momentum in spring.

Alongside Abbott as Professor X, Adam Driver takes on the villain Mr. Sinister, with Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Maya Boyd as Storm, Kit Connor as Cyclops, and Sadie Sink as Jean Grey.
