Maeve Harrigan may have been preparing to murder someone under her own roof, and MobLand Season 2 Episode 4 leaves Conrad staring at the evidence of her sinister intentions.
Spoiler Alert !!!
Major spoilers for MobLand Season 2 Episode 4, “Blank Curtain,” ahead!
MobLand Season 2 Episode 3 ended with Frankie’s helmet bomb killing Dog and wrecking the Harrigans’ yard. In Blank Curtain, Harry faces Conrad’s suspicions, Seraphina’s betrayal, and mounting police pressure. But the half-empty antifreeze bottle in Conrad’s bathroom raises an even nastier question: who was Maeve planning to poison?
Conrad Discovers Maeve’s Antifreeze and Suspects Betrayal
Credit:- Paramount+Conrad’s deteriorating health has already made him increasingly unpredictable, but his latest discovery gives him a legitimate reason to distrust his wife. While searching for bandages after his wound starts bleeding, he discovers antifreeze hidden among Maeve’s belongings. The bottle is partially empty, which immediately raises the possibility that some of its contents have already been used.
The discovery recalls MobLand Season 2 Episode 2, when Maeve summoned a veterinarian and asked about substances that could be concealed in food or drinks. The conversation eventually turned to antifreeze, an extraordinarily suspicious subject considering Maeve’s history of eliminating people who inconvenience her. I wouldn’t dismiss Conrad’s suspicions, since he knows Maeve’s cruelty better than anyone. Their marriage is already strained, and she seems pleased with his growing distrust of Harry. Yet Conrad surprisingly keeps his temper in check, promising a serious conversation after London without mentioning the antifreeze. Does he suspect Maeve is targeting someone close, or is he worried about himself?
Harry Kills Finch as the Harrigan Empire Fractures
Credit:- Paramount+While Conrad contemplates his wife’s duplicity, Harry discovers that his own carefully cultivated police protection is becoming a liability. Kavanagh notices irregularities in the evidence from the Green Park Dogs shooting and traces the tampering to Finch. Harry receives a warning and engineers a jewellery robbery to determine whether Finch still has access to sensitive police information. When Finch knows nothing about the incident, Harry realizes Kavanagh has effectively frozen him out.
The compromised officer has become expendable, and Harry takes him into the woods before hanging him in a staged suicide. Finch desperately claims his wife possesses incriminating information about the Harrigans, but his bluff collapses under questioning. I found Harry’s composure particularly chilling here. He dispatches a longtime accomplice with the same dispassionate efficiency he brings to arranging meetings, which makes Conrad’s accusations about his loyalty even more galling.
Harry also confronts Seraphina about secretly working for Kat McAllister. She admits that surviving her earlier kidnapping persuaded her to seek protection outside the Harrigan family. Instead of killing her, Harry decides she could become his informant inside Kat’s operation. That arrangement might be shrewd, but Seraphina has already demonstrated that self-preservation outranks family allegiance. Trusting her to betray Kat without betraying Harry again seems like playing with fire.
Elsewhere, Maeve sends Eddie and Gina to County Kerry without disclosing their assignment. Her sudden willingness to let Gina accompany Eddie is suspicious, especially after repeatedly demanding that he abandon Harry’s daughter. The episode’s closing developments bring further trouble. Frankie sends Harry an intimate video involving Jan and Donnie, while Conrad launches an unauthorized attack on Frankie’s wrecking yard. Harry’s attempts to control the conflict are rapidly becoming futile.
MobLand Ending Explained: Was Maeve Targeting Seraphina?
Credit:- Paramount+Seraphina remains the strongest candidate for Maeve’s intended victim, although Episode 4 stops short of confirming that she planned to poison her. The evidence stretches back to Maeve’s suspicious reconciliation attempt in Episode 2. Despite her longstanding hostility toward Seraphina, Maeve unexpectedly suggested that they meet for dinner. Around the same time, she questioned the veterinarian about concealing poison in food or drink and obtained antifreeze.
Seraphina never attended that dinner because Donnie warned her to stay away. The aborted meeting could explain why Maeve still possesses the chemical when Conrad discovers it. I suspect Maeve wanted Seraphina eliminated before her growing independence threatened the Harrigans further. Their relationship has been poisonous for some time, and Maeve’s sudden appetite for reconciliation was suspicious from the outset. Yet the half-empty bottle complicates that interpretation.
If Maeve never had the opportunity to poison Seraphina, where did the missing liquid go? Gina is another possibility because Maeve has repeatedly tried separating her from Eddie. Sending them to Ireland could be part of a larger scheme, although nothing establishes that the antifreeze was intended for Gina. Conrad himself cannot be ruled out entirely. His health is deteriorating, and Maeve has become increasingly comfortable manipulating his decisions. Still, the episode provides no evidence that she has administered poison to him.
For now, Seraphina is the most plausible target, while the missing antifreeze remains an unresolved mystery. I find Conrad’s discovery more compelling than Frankie’s latest provocation because Maeve’s schemes threaten the family from within. Harry can identify an external enemy and prepare a counterattack, but Conrad discovering that his wife may be concealing a murder plot could tear apart whatever loyalty the Harrigans have left. Was Seraphina Maeve’s intended victim, or does that half-empty bottle suggest somebody has already been poisoned?
