Sword and sorcery stories are at their best when dangerous monsters, powerful magic, and skilled warriors come together in a world where survival is never guaranteed. Netflix’s The Witcher offers plenty of that, following Geralt of Rivia as he hunts creatures, faces human cruelty, and deals with the messy choices that come with his profession.
However, several anime take these ideas even further. With that said, these six series each offer something that The Witcher fans may find even more satisfying.
6 Goblin Slayer Does Monster Hunting Better Than The Witcher

Goblin Slayer doesn’t depend on flashy magic or overwhelming strength. He studies his enemies, sets traps, uses the environment, and makes sure he has a plan before entering a fight. Geralt does plenty of preparation himself, but this anime makes the practical side of monster hunting its biggest strength. It takes sixth place because its focus is narrower than the more ambitious dark fantasy stories ahead.
5 Claymore Gives The Witcher a Darker Take on Monster Hunters

Clare belongs to an organization of half-human, half-Yoma warriors who protect people from shape-shifting creatures.
What makes the series stand out is the price these warriors pay for their power. Every fight risks pushing them closer to losing their humanity, while the people they protect often fear them just as much as the monsters. That feels familiar to anyone who knows Geralt’s struggles with prejudice. Claymore ranks above Goblin Slayer because it builds a much darker story around the lives of its monster hunters.
4 Record of Lodoss War Outdoes The Witcher in Classic Fantasy

Sometimes, it’s fun to watch a group of warriors travel across a magical land, face dangerous enemies, and take part in a conflict that could change entire kingdoms. Record of Lodoss War delivers exactly that kind of adventure.
The series brings together knights, dragons, sorcerers, and ancient evils. While The Witcher often focuses on the problems facing individual villages and troubled people, Record of Lodoss War embraces the larger adventure. It takes fourth place because its traditional fantasy world is a treat, even if it doesn’t match the darker entries in terms of horror and emotional weight.
3 Black Clover Delivers Bigger Magic Battles Than The Witcher

In this world, almost everyone can use magic, and a person’s abilities often decide their place in society. Asta has no magic at all, making him an outsider until he receives a five-leaf grimoire containing anti-magic power.
Asta’s swords let him cut through magical attacks, giving the series a fun mix of swordplay and spectacular battles. The fights against the Eye of the Midnight Sun and the Spade Kingdom’s Dark Triad show just how wild these confrontations can become. Black Clover ranks third because its magical variety and huge battles offer more spectacle than Record of Lodoss War.
2 Dororo Delivers a Darker Version of The Witcher‘s Monster Hunts

In Dororo, Lord Daigo makes a pact with demons to bring prosperity to his land, sacrificing his newborn son’s body in return. Hyakkimaru survives with prosthetic limbs and weapons, then sets out to reclaim his stolen body by hunting the demons responsible.
The story becomes especially painful because every victory comes with a cost. Like Geralt, he travels through a cruel world filled with human greed and supernatural threats. Dororo earns second place because its monster hunts are tied to a deeply personal struggle over humanity, sacrifice, and survival.
1 Berserk Is the Dark Fantasy The Witcher Fans Need
Some fantasy worlds are dangerous. The world of Berserk feels downright cruel. Guts begins as a mercenary who relies on his sword and physical strength to survive, eventually joining Griffith’s Band of the Hawk. Their story starts with battlefield victories and growing ambition, but the Golden Age arc takes a horrifying turn during the Eclipse.
What makes Berserk so powerful is that its darkest moments grow out of human choices, broken trust, and unchecked ambition. The supernatural horror is terrifying, but the tragedy surrounding Guts and Griffith gives it real emotional weight. Geralt faces monsters and difficult choices, too, but Berserk pushes its brutality and despair much further. That’s why it takes the top spot – it offers the kind of grim, unforgiving fantasy that stays with viewers long after the story ends.
