Michael has grossed $932.2 million worldwide, with $362.8 million and $569.5 million internationally(Via Box Office Mojo). The film’s $97.2 million domestic opening was the biggest ever for a biopic, shattering Oppenheimer‘s previous record of $33 million. Jaafar Jackson‘s headline performance and the universal appeal of Jackson’s music have kept the film in theaters for over 10 weeks, with strong holdovers in its fourth weekend, earning $26 million as reported by Variety.

The biopic has already become the highest-grossing musical biopic of all time domestically, surpassing Bohemian Rhapsody‘s $216.7 million. Globally, Michael trails only Bohemian Rhapsody‘s $911 million record, needing just $79 million more to claim the top spot. The Passion of the Christ, Mel Gibson’s R-rated depiction of Jesus’ final hours, grossed $612.1 million worldwide and $370.8 million domestically, making it the highest-grossing Christian and independent film of all time.

With its momentum and international strength, Michael is projected to cross $1 billion globally by late summer 2026, becoming the first biopic ever to enter the billion-dollar club. That would cement the King of Pop’s legacy while rewriting box office history for music biopics.
