At the time, Damon was not attached, and the project reportedly lacked a completed screenplay. The situation remains fluid, although Damon has previously praised Berger’s filmmaking abilities and expressed interest in hearing more about the concept being developed. Later, Universal produced Treadstone, a television series exploring the origins and reach of the CIA program that created operatives like Bourne.

The studio’s commitment became even clearer in recent years. Universal secured long-term control over the Bourne property and publicly discussed ambitions to expand the broader Bourne universe with future stories and projects (via Games Radar). That makes Damon’s latest comments particularly noteworthy. Unlike previous years, there now appears to be a convergence of factors working in the franchise’s favor. Universal has the rights, Berger has reportedly been involved in development, and Damon remains interested if the right story emerges.
