Kayce Dutton escaped one war when Yellowstone ended, but Marshals Season 2 looks ready to drag his family straight into another. The CBS hit returns as the East Camp conflict escalates, Kayce’s work as a U.S. Marshal becomes painfully personal, and another beloved Yellowstone cowboy finds his way back into his orbit.
An even bigger reunion is simmering beyond Season 2. Luke Grimes and Kelly Reilly have now discussed bringing Kayce and Beth Dutton together again, giving the long-rumored Marshals and Dutton Ranch crossover considerably more substance than fan wishful thinking (via TV Insider). Here is what viewers need to know before Kayce straps the badge back on.

Its premiere also became the most-streamed CBS episode ever on Paramount+. CBS published those figures while announcing the latest Yellowstone reunion.
Who Is in the Marshals Season 2 Cast?
Logan Marshall Green and Arielle Kebbel in Marshals Season 2 | Image via CBS TelevisionLuke Grimes naturally returns as Kayce Dutton, while Logan Marshall-Green, Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, and Tatanka Means remain members of his Marshal unit.
| Actor | Character |
| Luke Grimes | Kayce Dutton |
| Logan Marshall-Green | Pete Calvin |
| Arielle Kebbel | Belle Skinner |
| Ash Santos | Andrea Cruz |
| Tatanka Means | Miles Kittle |
| Brecken Merrill | Tate Dutton |
| Gil Birmingham | Thomas Rainwater |
| Mo Brings Plenty | Mo |
| Jefferson White | Jimmy Hurdstrom |
The juiciest addition is Jefferson White’s Jimmy Hurdstrom, who returns in a recurring capacity after becoming one of Yellowstone’s great redemption stories. CBS now describes Jimmy as a resilient and proud cowboy, a far cry from the troubled young man John Dutton reluctantly brought onto the ranch. White sounds delighted to reopen that chapter. “Jimmy and I have been through a lot together and I can’t wait to see what’s next for us,” he said while announcing his return.
What Is Marshals Season 2 About?
Logan Marshall Green and Arielle Kebbel in Marshals Season 2 | Image via CBS TelevisionSeason 2 wastes little time hitting Kayce where it hurts. The premiere, titled All Hat No Cattle, begins after Tate is taken hostage, sending Kayce rogue in a desperate attempt to rescue his son. Meanwhile, the Marshals uncover a powerful criminal operation connected to the East Camp land grab, culminating in what CBS describes as a violent showdown. Christopher Chulack directs the premiere from a script by showrunner Spencer Hudnut. The conflict neatly weaponizes Kayce’s defining contradiction: he may wear a federal badge now, but fatherhood can still make procedure expendable.
Elsewhere, Cal continues battling cancer while sharing leadership responsibilities with Andrea, while Thomas Rainwater faces younger Native leaders questioning whether he remains the right person to lead Broken Rock. CBS’s current Season 2 overview lays out those parallel storylines.
What Does Marshals Season 2 Trailer Reveal?
Arielle Kebbel in Marshals Season 2 | Image via CBS TelevisionCBS released the full Season 2 trailer on September 2 after an earlier August teaser, and the footage suggests Kayce’s sophomore year will be considerably more physical. Part of that escalation comes from an old Yellowstone collaborator. Jordan Warrack, Grimes’ original stuntman, has returned to double Kayce after missing Season 1 because he was coordinating on Dutton Ranch. Warrack started on Yellowstone as an assistant stunt coordinator in Season 2 before eventually becoming stunt coordinator for its final season.
Grimes says the difference is already tangible. “We’re actually able to do a lot more stuff with the stunts this year than we were able to in Season 1,” he told the outlet. That includes Kayce roping both people and bulls. Grimes cheerfully admits there is no Hollywood shortcut for years of rodeo experience, which is where Warrack becomes invaluable.
The trailer consequently sells more than gunfire. Kayce’s cowboy skills, Navy SEAL background, and Marshal training are beginning to bleed together, making Season 2 look closer to the character’s full Yellowstone skill set than his freshman outing.
Will Marshals Cross Over With Dutton Ranch?
Ash Santos in Marshals Season 2 | Image via CBS TelevisionHere is the bittersweet answer: not during Season 2, but Grimes and Reilly want it to happen later. Grimes told TV Insider that there is no Dutton Ranch crossover in the upcoming season. However, he and Reilly have repeatedly texted about eventually bringing Beth and Kayce back together.
It’s not out of the question that we might have some sort of crossover at some point.
He went further, arguing that a reunion could be “fun and necessary for our story arcs.” Beth is effectively Kayce’s remaining close family beyond Tate, yet the siblings have been pulled into separate corners of the post-Yellowstone universe. Kelly Reilly feels the absence too. After Dutton Ranch Season 1, she admitted, “I think Beth misses her brother,” while calling their lack of contact a missed opportunity.
The franchise also has plenty of runway to make it happen. Dutton Ranch has been renewed for Season 2 after its first season drew 12.9 million global viewers within seven days, making it Paramount+’s biggest original-series launch. Paramount confirms the renewal and viewing record. So there is no secret Beth cameo waiting around the bend this season. Yet Jimmy’s confirmed appearance proves Marshals is comfortable reopening Kayce’s Yellowstone relationships, while Grimes and Reilly are publicly lobbying for the biggest reunion still missing.
