This episode was yet again another great example of psychological warfare with mind games and revelations at every corner.
Studio Madhouse continues to maintain the animation standard throughout the episode that is both nostalgic and polished. That being said, here’s what went down in the latest episode of the new 2026 psychological thriller anime series, Liar Game Episode 4.

The Minority Game Explained With a Quick Rehearsal Session
A still from Liar Game Episode 4 | Credits: MadhouseEpisode 4 kicks off with the second phase of the Liar Game Tournament – the Round 2 “Minority Rule”. After Leronira explains the rules and offers lunch for the participants, Nao and Akiyama finally get a one-on-one time. Upon Nao’s asking, Akiyama reveals that he was playing as a substitute for another participant, named Michiko Takata, who won the first round. While that participant came to return the money and drop out, another participant, disguised as an LGT official, took the money and ran inside.
After lunch, Lenorina invited all the participants to a practice round of the Minority Rule game, before the actual game began. During the practice round, a question was asked, and the players would vote YES or NO in a ballot box. The question was, “Are you a woman?” Nao thought that she was in the minority as there were only 8 women, including her. However, the YES-NO votes saw a 15:7 win-ratio, meaning 7 men voted YES. The intensity and trickery involved in the game became pretty clear after that.
A Paranoid Nao Calms Down Thanks to Akiyama’s Planning
As the episode progresses and Nao is escorted to her room, she becomes extremely paranoid about the game and starts panicking, searching for Akiyama throughout the entire mansion. She finally finds him in a lobby with other players and breaks down emotionally. However, Akiyama assures her that he has a plan and takes her to his room to explain.
As Akiyama explains, they need to form an 8-person team to win the game. While this won’t win them the full prize money, his plan guarantees 40 million yen for every member of their team. Before choosing the candidates, Akiyama cautions Nao about the player “X” who stole the money earlier. To stay on the safe side, they pick a team of all women and an elderly man, who doesn’t fit the description of player “X”.
As Akiyama explains, each member of their team will keep splitting the votes into minority and keep dropping out of the rounds, which will ensure that one of them survives and wins the game in the end. With the plan in mind and the team assembled, they start preparing for what’s to come.
Liar Game Episode 4 Final Verdict
Nao from Liar Game Episode 4 | Credits: MadhouseLiar Game Episode 4, titled “Minority Rule“, wasn’t extravagant or over the top; it was just done perfectly – maintaining the balance of tension and psychological drama. What I really like about the episode is how they took a simple game concept and turned it into a massive psychological construct with the participants and their personalities. What’s more is that the sequences never felt lagging and maintained a steady but uniform pace throughout the episode.
There’s not much to say regarding the animation, as you know it’s going to be polished if Studio Madhouse is on the job. From the subtle effects flaring with the logical presentations to the fluidity of the character moments and expressions, the episode felt as good as new, even though we are 4 episodes deep at this point. Overall, a very balanced composition that complements Shinobu Kaitani’s masterful story.

Liar Game Episode 4 Review: The Games Intensify With Intense Psychological Narrative
The episode was heavily filled with psychological analysis. I really liked how a simple game of "Minority Rule" was translated into an absolute psychological warfare.
