Jon Bernthal’s Intense 132-Minute Thriller Dominates Hulu Ahead of Trilogy Plan

1 week ago 18

With a third installment in development, Jon Bernthal’s intense thriller flick, The Accountant 2, has dominated Hulu for a total of 25 days and counting. The data was reported on FlixPatrol, and the film currently holds the position of #13 in the top 15 movies on Hulu in the United States.

This comes ahead of the fact that although The Accountant 2 was released in 2025, plans for a sequel and a trilogy are already in motion. In fact, there is a possibility that the franchise might just end the storyline of Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) and Braxton (Jon Bernthal) with the third movie.

After nearly a decade of waiting, Jon Bernthal and Ben Affleck returned to the world of The Accountant when the sequel was released in 2025. However, the third part in the franchise was announced before The Accountant 2 was even released.

Collider spoke with director Gavin O’ Conner, and the director confirmed that the plan was to always have a trilogy. Ever since, “I started editing the first one. There’s always been three.”

I got the script from Lynette Howell Taylor, and then from the script that I initially got, I started working with Bill. I think any filmmaker’s going to do it. You get a script, you respond to it. How does it affect you personally? But then you keep climbing inside of it. It becomes your own aesthetic and sensibility.

Although the talk took place back in 2025, there are no additional updates regarding where The Accountant 3 currently is, in terms of stages of development. Despite a surprising lack of updates, we do know some things that the threequel is going to tackle.

Will The Accountant 3 Be a Buddy-Trip Movie?

Well, not exactly a buddy-trip movie, but it has been confirmed by the director that Ben Affleck’s Christian Wolff will potentially find his love in the threequel and finally earn the love that he deserves.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Gavin O’Connor shared that they always wanted The Accountant to be a love story with brothers, and not just any love story.

We wanted a love story with brothers. We wanted to do a ’48 Hours’ or ‘Midnight Run’ kind of buddy picture. Then the third movie, which is what the plan has always been, is for [Christian’s] quest for love and connection to be consummated. I don’t know what that’s going to be yet, but that’s the intention.

Considering the fact that Christian Wolff might be getting a love interest, it would be a great send-off for Jon Bernthal’s Braxton as well as the franchise to have a happy ending with a trilogy.

Although there hasn’t been much confirmation about plans for a buddy-trip movie between Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal, fans will always be happy to see the duo return to the screen.
