The first trailer for Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice has been released, and it features Jack Lowden as an English icon bigger than James Bond. Being a new adaptation of the Jane Austen novel, Pride and Prejudice sees Jack Lowden portraying the role of Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy.
The trailer does seem to hint that the series will be more of a slow-burning flick rather than the usual 2-hour Jane Austen adaptations. The story is penned by Everything I Know About Love author Dolly Alderton (via Netflix Tudum), who will also be serving as an executive producer of the show.

Well, the trailer for Pride and Prejudice had special importance for the character of Jack Lowden. In fact, we wouldn’t be too bold in saying that Lowden’s James Bond side even had a cameo in the trailer.
Jack Lowden’s Pride and Prejudice Trailer Showcases His James Bond Side
Jack Lowden as Mr. Darcy in Pride & Prejudice | Credits: NetflixMr. Darcy’s character has always been kept enigmatic, mysterious, and not the most perfect husband material. However, Jack Lowden’s Mr. Darcy arrives with the poise and menace of a man who could just as easily be carrying a Walther PPK.
Lowden, fresh from playing MI5’s River Cartwright in Slow Horses, trades covert ops for cravats, yet keeps the cool, guarded stare that has fuelled talk of him as the next 007.
Jack Lowden’s Mr. Darcy appears as quite formidable, reserved, and magnetic, which is quite a good thing, both for his potential role as James Bond and for Mr. Darcy in Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice.
Pride and Prejudice Arguably Remains The Bigger English Story Than 007
Daniel Craig in a still from No Time to Die | Credits: Eon ProductionsNot as many English stories have traveled as far and wide as Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. Published in 1813 by Jane Austen, the novel has stayed in print for more than two centuries. Spawning numerous films, series, stage plays, and countless retellings, Pride and Prejudice is something that cannot be replicated.
On the other hand, James Bond was born in 1953 and became a global franchise with a famous fan base, but his appeal rests on spectacle and gadgets, while Austen’s romance rests on character, wit, and class tension that readers recognize 200 years later.
Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy have lasted longer, reached more classrooms, and shaped how romance is written. Arguably, this makes the Jane Austen novel a bigger story than James Bond.

Pride and Prejudice will be available to stream from December 3, 2026, on Netflix.
