Spoiler Alert !!!

This article contains spoilers for the Invincible comic.

Invincible has correctly deduced that Thragg and the remaining Viltrumites are heading towards Earth. Now, it must be noted that this decision was made by Thragg right after he slew Thaedus, the leader of the Coalition of Planets, and the destruction of Viltrum at the hands of Thaedus, Nolan, and Mark. There are very few Viltrumites left, and the solution to that was right in front of him, in the form of Mark, whom he spared.

Thragg is headed to Earth in the hopes that more Viltrumites can breed with humans to produce near-perfect hybrids like Mark, who can then restore the Viltrum Empire to its former greatness, as is known from the comics. Now, the reason Thragg left Nolan and Mark alive was that while they were opposed to Thragg’s agenda, they are still Viltrumites, and despite his hatred for Thaedus, Thragg does care for Viltrumite lives, especially in the wake of all the decimation the population has faced.

Thragg Believes Invincible Is a Symbol of the Viltrumites’ Salvation

So far in the series, fans have seen two types of hybrids produced by Viltrumites, both courtesy of Nolan. One is Mark, who is half human, half Viltrumite, and the other is Oliver, who is half Thraxan and half Viltrumite. Thragg saw both these characters fight the Viltrumites firsthand. Mark was already considered worthy of the cause when he fought the Viltrumites during the invasion of Thraxa, and this was further reinforced when it was revealed that Invincible killed Conquest. Oliver, on the other hand, has yet to win a fight against Viltrumites and is hence considered unworthy.

Given that Thraxans can dilute Viltrumite DNA to a larger extent than humans do, Thragg’s decision to go to Earth makes the most sense for Viltrumites. It is never explicitly stated in the comics why Earth is chosen over Thraxa. While Thraxans could give Thragg an army that matures quickly, and stays usable longer, it has been proven that human-Viltrumite hybrids often can go toe to toe wth full blooded Viltrumites and come out on top. To Thragg, Mark could symbolize the hope of restoring the Viltrumite empire to its former glory, without the species having to compromise on its ideas of strength and its ‘might makes right’ attitude.

Cecil Steadman Can Never Hope for a Viltrumite-Free Earth in His Lifetime

Now, Thragg and his generals could decimate Earth and take the entire population hostage. They could turn the entire planet into a breeding facility, but that is not what Thragg does. He knows that in doing so, the Coalition will have a target that they could destroy, not to mention the various indigenous heroes and villains that could rise up against them. Instead, what Thragg is going to do is integrate his Viltrumites into the human population, such that they may be able to grow in secret.

Of course, the GDA is likely going to have its eyes on all the Viltrumites, but there is literally nothing that Cecil can do to fight this silent, non-violent invasion (except maybe making Viltrumites infertile by putting something in the water, like the fluoride thing they did for the White Room, but that never happens in the comics). Even the strongest heroes on the planet could not defeat a single Viltrumite, much less the number that Thragg has taken to the planet. However, Cecil Steadman might not have to take drastic steps at all, as the Viltrumites succumb to the one thing on Earth that Thragg did not, and could not account for.

All the Viltrumites that end up coming to Earth, save Thragg, have a change of heart when they deal with humans, with each of them growing fond of the families that they raise on Earth. owing to this, no Viltrumite wants to move on Earth or conquer it, with the additional issue of Argall’s heir being found on Earth. Who do you think they are? Let us know in the comments.

Invincible Season 4 will air its final episode on April 22, 2026, on Amazon Prime Video
