Spoiler Alert !!!
This article contains major spoilers from the Imperfect Women!
The much-awaited finale of Apple TV+‘s Imperfect Women is finally here, answering all the burning questions that we have had since the show first premiered. More than shock value and the burgeoning secrecy around the central murder mystery, the finale tied up loose ends from the entire story. As suspected, we learn that Howard was behind Nancy’s death, but the how and why of it all was presented clearly in the show.
A fitting end to the story, Episode 8 focuses less on who committed the crime and more on why it happened and what comes after. As the story closed, the characters were forced to confront the consequences of their actions and suffer the aftermath of their fractured relationships. Here’s a breakdown of the major revelations and what they mean.

Did Howard Kill Nancy Intentionally?
Howard and Nancy in Imperfect Women | Credits: Apple TV+The biggest question looming over the season is finally answered as we learn that Howard is responsible for Nancy’s death. The finale confirms our suspicions and unravels the thread of mystery right down to the very beginning. Nancy’s affair with Howard spiraled into a fatal confrontation as Howard attempted to persuade Nancy to leave her life behind. He wanted to run away with her and build a new life away from the people they were currently with. When tensions escalated, he pushed her during an argument, which led to her hurting her head.
While we may have some sympathy for Howard, as it seems like Nancy died in an accident, rather than coming forward and calling an ambulance, he decides to hide his crime. He moves the body and manipulates those around him to pin the blame on someone else. He takes no accountability for his actions and twists the narrative completely. In his head, he is killing two birds with one stone by letting Mary take the fall for the death of Nancy and framing her as unstable. We also witness his controlling and obsessive behavior.
Why Was Scott at the Scene?

This led to many speculating that Howard might be innocent after all, and Scott is the real killer. However, the finale clarifies that Nancy had contacted Scott herself. She wanted him to intervene and intimidate Howard, hoping it would force him out of her life.
Scott arrives with the best intentions to protect Nancy, but it’s too late. Once we learn that Nancy contacted Scott, his involvement becomes clearer, and he seems like a red herring planted to divert our attention. More than anything else, Nancy’s decision to call Scott proves that she was afraid of Howard’s controlling and aggressive behavior, which means she knew he was capable of doing something so untoward.
What Happens to Mary and Eleanor’s Friendship?
Beyond the murder, the emotional core of the finale lies in the fractured relationship between Mary and Eleanor. Their friendship has weathered many storms, from countless secrets and budding mistrust to the different ways in which they chose to handle tough situations in their lives.
By the end of Episode 8, there is no heartwarming embrace or tearful apologies. Instead, the series chooses a realistic portrayal of the increasing distance between friends who eventually grow apart. The two women begin to rebuild a fragile understanding, but it’s clear their relationship will never be the same.
Right from the beginning, the friendship between the three women was a central theme in the narrative. They have been through so much, from betrayals to murders, and all of these situations have taken a permanent toll on their relationship. Their long-term friendship evolved under pressure and may never return to what it once was. Rather than forcing closure, the finale gave space for understanding and healing so that they can someday come together again.
What Does the Final Flash-Forward Reveal?
Robert in Imperfect Women | Credits: AppleTV+The last few moments of the episode feature a time jump into the future, where the dust is now settling from the past storm of events. The characters are finally getting into the rhythm of their daily routines, where we see Eleanor moving on, embracing a new chapter in her life. Mary, on the other hand, is shown in a more stable and hopeful place, particularly in her role as a mother.
However, the ending isn’t entirely resolved. When Robert shows up at Mary’s house with a cake for her daughter’s birthday, we are shocked to see this dynamic evolve into something else entirely. Throughout the show, we saw him as a grieving husband who was possibly a suspect in the murder, but never in this scenario. Their final look suggests unresolved tension, or possibly a new dynamic forming, leaving some unresolved feelings in the air. Life moves on, but not everything is explained neatly.
The show strikes a balance between offering a tidy closure to the central mystery while also hinting at the messy relationships between people. It answers the questions that matter most to the plot, yet acknowledges that human relationships rarely come with definitive endings.
In the end, Imperfect Women isn’t just about solving a murder; it’s about showing how one event can have a cascading effect on so many people’s lives. One choice often leads to many situations where people can get stuck in a web of their own making. The series did a great job of keeping the mystery alive while also focusing on individual characters’ journeys and growth through it all.
