Yoshihiro Togashi’s legendary series has reached another major milestone with the release of Hunter x Hunter Chapter 420 on September 6, 2026. Marking the conclusion of a highly anticipated 10-chapter summer run, the latest installment is available to read digitally across official global publishing platforms, MANGA Plus and Viz Media.
However, alongside this release comes familiar news for the fandom: Hunter x Hunter manga is entering yet another hiatus. As the Succession Contest arc pauses once more, here is everything you need to know about where to catch up.

Shueisha handles its global distribution through MANGA Plus by Shueisha, which drops every new chapter the exact moment it hits newsstands in Japan. Over in North America, VIZ Media mirrors the release on both its website and the official Shonen Jump app. The best part? Neither platform expects you to reach for your wallet right away.
Both services run a sweet “latest three chapters” model, meaning Chapter 420 is sitting there totally free alongside Chapters 418 and 419. If you are all caught up, you can simply load the page, read the latest mastermind play, and start panicking about the ending like the rest of us.
Hunter x Hunter Enters Another Indefinite Hiatus

This report is backed by Manga Plus by Shueisha, which aligns with how other series are handled. Ongoing manga series like Kagurabachi, Dandadan, and One Piece have their upcoming chapter release dates explicitly listed on the platform, whereas Hunter × Hunter has left the next date unlisted.
HUNTERxHUNTER by Yoshihiro Togashi will return to its indefinite hiatus after Chapter 420 in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #41.

Because Yoshihiro Togashi has been openly sharing manuscript updates – having finished working on Chapter 426 and actively drafting up to Chapter 429 – this pause feels more like a brief intermission than another multi-year hiatus. Shueisha should announce the exact return date in a future issue of Jump once the next batch of chapters is fully prepped and ready for publication, which should be sooner than any previous hiatus.
What to Expect From Hunter x Hunter Moving Forward
Hisoka from Hunter x Hunter | Credit: MadhouseChapter 419 detailed exactly how Tserriednich’s ability, Laplace’s Devil, works. Chapter 420 raises the stakes further. Tserriednich enters the Tier 1 casino to find it eerily empty, then discovers a trail of soldiers killed identically – throats slit, no guns involved.
Tracking the scene to a mysterious man calmly playing a slot machine mid-lockdown, Tserriednich tests him using Laplace’s Devil: he sees himself shooting the man, only to see himself killed instantly, his identity exposed, and the man visibly disappointed that he “wasn’t a spider.”
This man is most definitely Hisoka, consistent with earlier teased art. His stated goal to shrink his Zetsu activation time below one second suggests upcoming chapters will test Laplace’s Devil under greater pressure. With Tier 1 sealed and bridges retracted, we can expect a tense standoff or escape sequence next. Separately, Killua’s teased Chapter 429 return remains unconfirmed but looms as a major potential shift in momentum for the arc’s final stretch.
