The original The Devil Wears Prada movie, released in 2006, was based on the bestselling novel by Lauren Weisberger. The author later wrote a sequel novel titled Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns in 2013, which led people to wonder whether the sequel movie was also based on the second book.

However, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is not a direct adaptation of that book. Though some aspects of the movie may align with the sequel novel’s ideas and characters, its storyline has been independently developed for the screen by returning screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna.
