Crimson Desert has a big combat system that goes far beyond just swinging your sword. And while you can get some pretty cool moves with the trusty sword, one of the biggest upgrades you can unlock is the Elemental Powers.
The single biggest game-changer for combat in Crimson Desert; elemental abilities. All of these are hidden away in Abyss puzzles, but add new Ice, Fire, Lightning, and Wind abilities to Kliff's arsenal.

Of course, if you’re something of a pyromaniac or prefer the Fire element, you’ll want to get one of the most destructive and satisfying abilities in the game. The Fire Imbue Element gives your attacks burning effects and unlocks new skills like Flame Strike. It’s a must-have if you enjoy fire attacks in games.
But like most other things in Crimson Desert, getting the Fire element isn’t very simple. Unlike some abilities that you unlock through the main quest or a side quest, Flame is tied to a long chain of Abyss puzzles, specific Spires, and more.
So if you want to unlock it, let’s break down everything you need to know, from prerequisites to the exact steps to unlock the fire element in Crimson Desert.

To unlock the Fire element in Crimson Desert, you’ll need to complete a specific sequence of Abyss puzzles that begins at the Spire of Ringing Truth. This is the main place to start in your efforts to unlock the fire element. You’ll find the spire in the western region of Pailune.
Once you reach the Spire, your first objective is to climb it, destroy the bell mechanism, and defeat the boss known as Priscus the Ancient. This opens access to the Abyss, where the real journey begins.
From there, you’ll need to progress through the following puzzle chain in order:
- Spire of Ringing Truth
- Ether Rest
- Frostbitten Paradise
- Path of Trials (this is where you unlock the Frost element)
- Sanctorum of Darkness
- Loop of Life
- Tree of Slumber (The Abyss where you’ll unlock the Fire element)
It’s worth noting that you effectively unlock the Frost element along the way, and in many cases, this is required to proceed further into the Abyss. So if you haven’t already obtained Frost, don’t worry. The game will naturally give it to you on the way to the Fire element.
Once you reach the Tree of Slumber, completing its puzzle will reward you with:
- Flame Lv. 1 (Fire Element Imbuement)
- Flame Strike ability
After unlocking Flame, you can equip it through the radial menu and later upgrade it further via the Skill Tree by upgrading the Imbue Element skill.
How to Complete the Tree of Slumber Puzzle
There’s an easy way to do the puzzle. | Image Credit: Pearl AbyssThe Tree of Slumber is the final and most complex step in unlocking the Fire element. While earlier puzzles test your understanding of movement and Abyss mechanics, this one focuses on manipulating pillar heights using a central mechanism.
Here’s a simplified breakdown of how it works.
At the center of the puzzle is a pillar mechanism where you can stab your sword and rotate it. This action controls multiple surrounding pillars. The goal is to align all pillars to the correct height so that their energy rings activate.
Each option in the center mechanism will move one or more of the pillars. When you insert your weapon and rotate the structure, you’ll notice certain pillars shimmer, these indicate which ones are being adjusted.
Here’s the simplified logic behind the puzzle:
- You interact with a central pillar by stabbing it with your weapon.
- Rotating this mechanism raises or lowers connected outer pillars.
- Each interaction affects multiple pillars at once, so random adjustments won’t work—you need controlled changes.
To solve it correctly:
- Adjust the pillars so their rings align at the same height (typically indicated by a glowing light or visual cue).
- Make sure none of the pillars are fully lowered—most need to sit around two-thirds height.
- Once all pillars are aligned, they will activate together, triggering the next phase.
I’ll let you figure out the puzzle yourself, but if you’re having trouble, you can just set all of them to max height, climb each pillar, and do the crouching Force Palm ability until they align. Once done, the lava drains from the area, and you’ll finish the puzzle.
Head toward the newly accessible section and use your Force Palm ability on the Abyss mechanism to activate the gate. This will activate the gate and officially grant you the Flame element. Be careful during this section because falling into lava will reset your progress, forcing you to redo the puzzle.
