Eavesdropping in Crimson Desert does not require any special skill unlock or ability tree investment. Instead, this mechanic becomes available naturally as part of the main story. You will first encounter it during Chapter 7’s Bared Fang quest.

Before you can eavesdrop, here is what you need to do:

• Progress to Chapter 7: Eavesdropping is introduced here for the first time, and does not need to be unlocked separately, as it is tied to story progression.
• Find the correct position near a wall, crack, or ledge: This is the most critical step. The prompt to eavesdrop will only appear when you are standing in a very specific spot. Being close to an NPC conversation is not enough.
• Activate the Eavesdrop: The in-game tutorial says to hold L1 (PS)/ LB (Xbox) to eavesdrop. Press the button to activate the mechanism once you are in position. If it does not appear, try leaning on the respective wall first.
• Keep holding the button: Once you activate the eavesdrop, do not release the button. The conversation takes time to complete, and releasing the button mid-way will reset your progress.

If your prompt fails to appear, try to readjust and shuffle your position around the wall before assuming the mechanic is broken.

To make contact with this faction, you must eavesdrop on multiple villagers first, the information from which is then used to infiltrate the faction. Furthermore, eavesdropping helps in gathering additional lore and story details of the world of Crimson Desert.
