Brad Pitt stars as James Belmont in the new survival thriller Heart of the Beast. Belmont is a retired Army Special Forces soldier who ends up crashing into the ruthless Alaskan wilderness. When we first meet Pitt’s character, he seems to be having PTSD from his time in the army. But he is with his loyal German Shepherd, named Odin, who is also a retired combat dog with scars of his own (via Deadline).

We see them on an aircraft when suddenly Belmont goes unconscious, and then the plane plunges into a stream. Odin drags him out, only to discover that they are stranded in the middle of nowhere, with only each other to help and comfort. The trailer immediately establishes a tense and emotional atmosphere. Pitt’s character is shown battling freezing temperatures, dangerous terrain, and physical exhaustion as he struggles to stay alive in one of the world’s harshest environments.

However, the heart of the film lies in Belmont and Odin’s relationship, turning the survival thriller into a more personal story centered on the connection between a man and his dog.

The film also stars J.K. Simmons and Anna Lambe.
