The long-range fighters in Naruto could win battles even before their opponents got close enough to engage in any fighting. Some of them were puppeteers, explosive experts, and shinobi capable of wiping out entire battlefields. They often changed the course of a battle before their opponents could even get close.
Whereas most memorable battles in Masashi Kishimoto’s series involve a lot of hand-to-hand combat, some of the best and most deadly ninjas were the long-range fighters. So here are 10 dedicated long-range specialists from Naruto, ranked.
10 Tenten Fought Using Endless Ninja Tools

During the Chunin Exams and later in Shippuden, she constantly relied on scroll-based weapon summoning, keeping enemies under pressure from a long distance instead of engaging with them directly.
Tenten’s greatest strength was her versatility. Unlike many fighters who depend on one signature jutsu, she could attack using explosive tags, giant weapons, and even the Sage of Six Paths’ tools during the war arc, making her one of the series’s few true long-range specialists.
9 Temari Could Blow Away Entire Armies

She could use wind attacks to destroy forests, blow away any enemy in an instant, and cover massive areas in seconds. Even Shikamaru admitted she was one of the toughest opponents he had faced during their tournament battle.
During the Fourth Great Ninja War, Temari’s battlefield control became even more impressive. Her Wind Techniques were able to kill many opponents at once, making her one of the Allied Shinobi Forces’ most valuable support fighters.
8 Shino Defeated Enemies With Hidden Bugs

Instead of flashy attacks, he used kikaichu insects to quietly drain chakra and attack enemies from unexpected directions. His fight against Kankuro during the Chunin Exams showed how deadly his long-range control could become when opponents underestimate him.
Shino’s patience was what made him so dangerous. His bugs could spread across huge distances while remaining difficult to detect. Even during missions after Part 1, he consistently relied on tracking, trapping, and slow pressure rather than direct close combat. That calm fighting style made him a true ranged specialist.
7 Sasori Made Puppets Extremely Deadly

During the Kazekage Rescue arc, he overwhelmed Sakura and Chiyo using poison-coated weapons, hidden traps, and puppet attacks launched from a safe distance. Almost every movement in his arsenal carried lethal intent.
His greatest advantage was scale. Sasori could control hundreds of puppets at once using his famous Red Secret Technique: Performance of a Hundred Puppets. Rather than overpowering enemies physically, he buried them under endless ranged attacks and poison assaults. That combination made him one of the Akatsuki’s most dangerous fighters.
6 Konan Almost Defeated Obito Alone

She strategically prepared 600 billion paper bombs and forced Obito into one of the most dangerous situations of his life. He probably would not have survived in that fight without using his Izanagi ability.
Konan’s battle against Obito showcased just how deadly her preparation and long-range tactics could be. Even though she was often overshadowed by Nagato, her battle with Obito certainly showed that she should be considered one of Naruto‘s greatest long-distance fighters.
5 Deidara Turned Explosions Into Art

His battles against Gaara and Sasuke showed just how dangerous aerial combat could be when combined with explosive power and mobility.
While other Akatsuki operatives relied on close-quarters battle tactics, Deidara focused exclusively on attacking from a distance. From microscopic bombs to giant flying dragons, nearly every attack forced opponents to defend from a distance.
4 Itachi Had Some of Naruto‘s Best Ranged Attacks

His use of Amaterasu in his battles showed how dangerous the black flames would be once triggered. Escaping them was nearly impossible.
Few shinobi combined precision and intelligence as effectively as Itachi. Whether using exploding crow clones, shurikenjutsu, or Susanoo weapons during the Fourth Great Ninja War, he always applied pressure to the enemy from a distance while maintaining his cool.
3 Nagato (Pain) Could Destroy Entire Battlefields
Nagato’s Six Paths of Pain completely changed the scale of combat in Naruto. During the Pain Assault arc, he destroyed most of Konoha using Shinra Tensei, one of the largest ranged attacks ever shown in the series at that point. Entire battlefields became meaningless against his power.

Every Path had different abilities that worked together over long distances, making direct engagement nearly impossible. Naruto defeating Pain became legendary partly because so few shinobi could even survive approaching him.
2 Sasuke Mastered Long-Range Rinnegan Powers

With the help of his Rinnegan techniques, along with his perfect Susanoo technique, he was able to unleash devastating attacks across massive areas with incredible precision during the Fourth Great Ninja War.
Few characters possessed techniques as versatile as Sasuke’s. For example, Sasuke was able to trap the tailed beasts using Chibaku Tensei, strike with devastating attacks like Indra’s Arrow, and move around using Amenotejikara. Very few shinobi could pressure enemies from so many distances and angles simultaneously.
1 Madara Had the Strongest Long-Range Attacks

What truly places Madara at number one is consistency. Nearly every major form he used became devastating at long range, whether it was Limbo clones, wood style attacks after absorbing Hashirama’s cells, or massive fire techniques capable of covering entire battlefields. Even the Five Kage struggled just to survive his attacks from a distance.
Other Notable Long-Range Fighters in Naruto
Several Naruto characters narrowly missed this list because long-range combat was not their primary specialty. Naruto Uzumaki deserves mention because techniques like Rasenshuriken became devastating ranged attacks during the Pain arc and Fourth Great Ninja War, but most of his combat style still relied heavily on close and mid-range pressure.
Shikamaru used Shadow Possession intelligently from a distance, yet his abilities focused more on strategy than large-scale ranged offense. Ino specialized in mind-transfer techniques, though her combat abilities were limited compared to the fighters ranked above. Mei Terumi’s lava and boil release attacks were dangerous from range, but she lacked the battlefield dominance shown by top-tier characters like Pain or Madara.
Minato Namikaze and Tobirama Senju also controlled battlefields brilliantly using Flying Raijin, but their fighting styles depended more on speed and teleportation than pure long-range attacks. Hashirama Senju also possessed enormous long-range Wood Style techniques, but his overall fighting style was not as specialized around ranged combat as the characters ranked above.
