Gundam Reveals All New Mecha Designs From Its Next Major Project

Bandai Namco’s next major push for the Gundam franchise centers on the RG Project, a two-pronged initiative built around GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT, an original action game, and the upcoming anime Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO. Both stories share the same continuity – the After Apocalypse timeline – just set decades apart, with the anime unfolding roughly a century before Rogue Orbit’s own events.

Ahead of the game’s March 2027 launch, Bandai has steadily unveiled both projects’ mecha rosters through official trailers and artwork (via the official website), giving fans their first proper look at how different eras and factions within this new setting approach Mobile Suit design. Alongside the newly named frames, a recent trailer also teased a mysterious black suit.

1 Gundam ZERO (XARX-0) From the Anime

The mobile suit from Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO, piloted by Ray Azumi, plays things close to tradition. Its color scheme sticks to the classic red-white-blue-yellow combo that’s defined the franchise’s icons since the original RX-78-2, and the overall silhouette draws heavily from that same lineage, with strong visual echoes of both the RX-78-2 and the more recent GQuuuuuuX.

Its main weapon shown so far is a beam saber, keeping its combat identity firmly rooted in Gundam‘s oldest traditions rather than reinventing the wheel like the mechas in the game. One of the more striking touches comes from its official poster art, where Gundam ZERO is draped in a large cloak – a dramatic flourish that hints at the anime leaning into a more classical tone that is reminiscent of Iron-Blooded Orphans.

2 The Primary Frame – Gundam Helix (ARK-10)

The protagonist’s mecha, piloted by ace pilot RE-X, is a clean white frame that echoes the classic silhouette fans have seen in the anime’s promotional art, though it doesn’t have the classic red and blue color palette on its main body, which is probably because customization is a big aspect of this game.

Its thrusters are straightforward and unassuming, closer to a traditional Gundam’s setup than anything experimental. Its main weapon is a rifle that appears to double as a blade, suggesting a versatile, close-and-far combat style.

3 Bau Bhalam (BMP4/6) – The Chainsaw Brute

Piloted by Big Paul, leader of the Mars-based pirate group Red Grit, Bau Bhalam is easily the roughest-looking mecha revealed so far. Its orange, weathered plating gives it a rusted and battle-hardened feel that fits its rough origins, while its signature weapon is a massive chainsaw-style blade built for brute force over finesse.

A single horn on its head recalls the Unicorn Gundam, while its stockier lower half leans closer to the classic Zaku silhouette. Four thin thrusters mounted on its back, each pointing in a different direction, suggest this suit trades armor for agility, likely making it the most maneuverable machine revealed in the lineup.

4 Calice (TRA122E/B) – The Shining Knight

Piloted by Elaine Galath, a Knight Commander of the Trezor Council, Calice seems quite different. Where Bau Bhalam is scrappy, Calice is imposing, wrapped in what looks like the thickest, most reinforced armor shown yet, paired with a knightly spear as its primary weapon.

Like Bau Bhalam, it also has a horn, and combined with its heavy-set silhouette, it almost reads as a reimagined Unicorn Gundam given a full armor upgrade and a fresh paint job. Its thrusters look built for power rather than speed, matching a suit clearly designed to anchor the front line.

5 A Mysterious Unidentified Black Mobile Suit

The latest trailer closed on a brief, unsettling glimpse of a black Mobile Suit with glowing red eyes, its identity and pilot still completely unrevealed. Bandai Namco has given no indication of who, or what, controls it, only that it’s clearly meant to loom over the story.

GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT is set to launch on March 5, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam. Meanwhile, Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO is slated for a broadcast sometime in 2027, though an exact date hasn’t been locked in yet.
