GTA 6 Officially Confirms Tribute to TV’s Greatest Serial Killer in New Easter Egg

GTA 6 fans might have caught the studio paying tribute to one of television’s most famous fictional serial killers. While picking apart Rockstar’s near half-hour gameplay showcase frame by frame, viewers noticed an oceanfront apartment complex in the in-game map that looks almost identical to Dexter Morgan’s real-life Miami residence from Showtime’s Dexter. The clip has since started making rounds on social media, with fans lining up in-game screenshots against photos of the actual building.

The moment that caught everyone’s attention is around the 18-minute mark of the trailer, when Lucia parachutes off of a tall building, giving viewers a brief aerial view of a nearby waterfront apartment complex. On its own, the shot might have gone unnoticed, but different users on X have posted side-by-side comparisons showing striking similarities between the in-game structure and the Bay Harbor Club condos in Bay Harbor Islands, Miami Beach, which happens to be the real building used for exterior shots of Dexter Morgan’s apartment throughout the series.

Fans pointed out how there were matching details between the two, including a similarly T-shaped frame, the waterside positioning, external stairwells, and even the walkways around the complex. This has left fans anticipating what other references might be hiding in the game, with many wondering if there will be Doakes, one of the show’s more memorable supporting characters.

Rockstar Is Careful With Its Easter Eggs

This wouldn’t be the franchise’s first interaction with Dexter. GTA 5 apparently had its own subtle nods to the show. Unfortunately, the studio hasn’t confirmed whether any of this is intentional. Speaking to IGN, Rockstar’s Rob Nelson said the studio is careful about which real-world and pop-culture elements it includes, so the game doesn’t feel dated by the time players get their hands on it.

Given how extensively it has researched Miami’s real architecture for Vice City, there’s a chance the resemblance is coincidental rather than a deliberate tribute.

What fuels the GTA 6 X Dexter theory is how the TV series turns 20 this October, right as Dexter: Resurrection is expected to return for a second season, just before the game hits shelves on November 19.
