God of War: Dave Bautista Reveals His Kratos Workout Routine to Replace Ryan Hurst

Actor and former wrestler Dave Bautista took to social media to give followers a sneak peek at his physique after an intense workout regimen. He has recently been cast in the upcoming God of War television series, where he will play the role of Kratos in the adaptation of the popular PlayStation video game series. Bautista replaced Ryan Hurst, who had to quit the role due to injury. Callum Vinson will play the role of Kratos’s son, Atreus.

In the caption, the Marvel actor talked about starting weight training in the third week. Bautista also told his followers he needs two more months to reach his goal with his intense workout routine. 

Dave Bautista Opens Up About His Physical Transformation

The actor had earlier made headlines for undergoing several physical transformations that sometimes showed weight gain, while sometimes showing drastic weight loss. Dave Bautista weighed around 315 pounds because of his role in M. Night Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin. However, the former wrestler admitted that he took the weight gain process a bit too far. He told Men’s Health:

I think I overdid it. I just got really big… I put on an uncomfortable amount of weight.I started trimming down because I just got really big,’ he explained. ‘I’ve sacrificed a lot of muscle, but I’m okay with it because I just feel more comfortable. Now that I’m older – f***ing old – this has done a lot for me.

The actor further explained that he managed to keep his weight in check by focusing more on cardio and jiu-jitsu and paying more attention to a more specific diet. As the actor proceeded to show his massive physical transformation, fans took to the comment section to praise the former WWE wrestler for getting in such great shape after losing a considerable amount of weight for his previous roles.

Christopher Judge Shares His Opinion on Dave Bautista Replacing Ryan Hurst

Christopher Judge, who portrayed Kratos in God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök (2022), recently opened up about the role at Fan Expo Canada. Judge explained how, at the age of 62, he did not want to put his body through such an intense workout regimen. He further talked about the long hours that eventually made the actor say no to the possibility of playing Kratos.

However, the actor did share his opinions on Dave Bautista playing the role in the upcoming Amazon series. Judge claimed that Ryan Hurst was a great choice for the role, as he played all the games and is a new father. Judge, however, expressed concern for Bautista, as he hopes that it doesn’t cause any health issues to “put back on all that weight.”

The official release date of God of War has not yet been announced. Frederick E.O. Toye will direct the first two episodes of the show, as filming has already begun. Dave Bautista is the newest addition after Ryan Hurst suffered a bicep-related injury, which required the actor to undergo surgery.

God of War will be streaming on Amazon Prime after it is released.
