5 Most Intense Avengers Arcs That Are Better Than Doomsday

Avengers: Doomsday has an almost impossible task. It brings together not just the Avengers, but also other premier Marvel teams such as the Fantastic Four and X-Men. There is also a lot riding on it, since the MCU has been hit-and-miss since the mega hit that was Avengers: Endgame. Doomsday has to deliver, and it’ll lead directly to Avengers: Secret Wars (2027).

But Marvel has numerous Avengers stories of this scale that are actually better and would have suited the fifth Avengers movie more. We have listed five of these below.

1 Avengers: Disassembled Tore the Team Apart From Within

Avengers: Disassembled begins with a series of inexplicable attacks that devastate the team and ultimately expose Scarlet Witch’s role (via Marvel.com). The team loses several members and its headquarters before effectively disbanding. The idea was echoed in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which also drew inspiration from the House of M storyline that follows Disassembled. What makes the original arc so powerful, however, is that the Avengers’ greatest tragedy comes from within the team itself.

2 Avengers: Forever Brought Heroes From Different Eras Together

Avengers: Forever tells the story of the team of the past, present, and future as Kang and Immortus wage a battle over the course of history. What emerges is a narrative that sees the heroes not only defending their world but also their identity, which comes under threat from outside powers trying to shape that world.

Using various generations of the team, the story examines the way in which their idealism survives despite changes that occur around them, including in their membership, history, and future.

3 Avengers vs. X-Men Turned Marvel’s Heroes Against Each Other

Avengers vs. X-Men brought two great superhero groups of Marvel at loggerheads with each other. This was thanks mainly to the Phoenix Force and Hope Summers (you’ll have to read to find out for yourself). Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Wolverine, and Cyclops find themselves going against heroes who were once their allies.

In particular, the storyline becomes especially pertinent as Marvel has already brought the X-Men to the MCU, and the roster for the X-Men movie was introduced at D23 2026. Marvel has a chance to use the same ideological conflict that made the comic storyline so interesting.

4 Secret Empire Turned Captain America Into a Threat to the Avengers

Secret Empire saw one of Marvel’s greatest icons turned into the leader of Hydra. It remains one of the most-discussed comic events this century. As his history is rewritten through the Cosmic Cube, Steve Rogers uses his reputation as Captain America to take control of America and enforce Hydra’s ideals.

Secret Empire is such a terrifying storyline because Steve Rogers was widely trusted. His shield, once a symbol of all that the team stand for, becomes a weapon of treachery. There are theories suggesting Chris Evans may be playing the Hydra version of Steve Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday.

5 Time Runs Out Gave the Avengers Almost No Way Out

Time Runs Out is basically the Avengers’ countdown to the end of everything. The title is not misleading. Incursions are destroying entire realities. Heroes have already made morally horrific choices in an attempt to save their own universe. There is no satisfying conclusion. In fact, it leads directly to Secret Wars, which makes me think at least a part of Doomsday will be inspired by this storyline.
